Easy setup, added great coverage on a multi-story place. It works!
The WIFI Mesh Extender EAX80 was extremely easy to setup. It took less than 15 minutes to get everything connected and up and running. It has made a difference in the speed of all my WIFI devices.
This Netgear Nighthawk AX6000 WiFi 6 Mesh Extender purchase was a replacement for an older Netgear extender I bought previously. With the new extender, I now have a strong and uninterrupted Internet signal throughout my home. Also, I no longer have to worry about restarting the extender because of a weak WiFi signal or equipment failure. These benefits are due to the improved WiFi 6 technology that is included in this Netgear extender unit. Finally, equipment setup was easy.
This is a very handy unit that looks great and works well. I paired the extender with a Nighthawk AX12 for full coverage of my large two-story home. The Nighthawk is downstairs at one end of the house and the extender is upstairs at the other end. I'm using it as a range extender and not a hot spot. I have been using Netgear routers and switches for years now and the software just keeps getting better. Configuration is intuitive and as simple or complex as you like. I used the Smart Connect feature which really simplified things but requires a little more thought if you need to directly access the extender during troubleshooting; use the provided link in the downloadable instructions and you're home free. The coverage is excellent and now all devices, phones, tablets, and computers have a strong signal. REALLY strong and blazing fast at 5G. The only minor issue I encountered was also mentioned in other reviews. Even though I immediately updated the firmware during installation, for about the first two weeks it went through a period of stabilizing where it would momentarily lose connection with the Nighthawk for a few seconds each day. It never dropped any devices and we wouldn't have noticed had I not been nearby and noticed the uplink light turn red. However, as reported by other users, this cleared up after about two weeks and it's been rock solid ever since. Perhaps it was building routing tables or something like that. Finally, I've never had a single Netgear device fail so expect it to last until the technology is obsolete. Highly recommended!
Note: I have a nighthawk router. I hardlined my wifi extender from the router. I did set up new wireless access points on the wifi extender. The UI is a little clunky using the genie desktop app and even the nighthawk app mobile app. Like it shows the connection is there for me as an extender. But some functionalities that I would expect aren't. Plus it just recognizes the extenders as devices and ip or Mac addresses. Which just doesn't make sense to me on the network map.
I used the EAX80 in conjunction with a CAX80. Not to difficult to hookup. The EAX80 did not resolve my deadzones or dropped connections. It did not override my neighbors network extender and wi-fi calling did not improve. Because it did not improve anything, I'm returning the EAX80 for refund.
I am having trouble with the number of external web attacks that it has attracted, but were blocked by the Netgear router's security. And now it is calling secure URLs insecure. I have not fallen to the known Extender Setup scan but do feel that there are still problems that should have either been included in a warning or subverted by a software fix before sale. All of the security issues go away when the extender is turned off.
When I installed it following directions, it shut down all my internet and wifi. Had to reinstall printer, etc. I was shocked that this is such a disaster.
The AX 6000 is not as strong as the other products
