I wanted to post a review after reading all the reviews about rashes - it's possible that there is something in there that some people are allergic to - however, I've been using it on myself and my toddler pretty much every day for over a year with no problems. We both have dry skin and eczema and are both redheads. I like that the active ingredient is Zinc Oxide and nothing that has been linked to endocrine disruptors.
I love this product. I have had basal cell cancer on my nose and I have to use a sunscreen. I like this because it is not oily and I can put it underneath my make-up. Does not burn your eyes.
interesting that I am not the only one with this reaction. Rash, itching and swelling after use. Tried on separate occasions since this is for babies, natural and hypoallergenic. My dermatologist recommended it too, so I wanted to make sure my reaction from this product.
Neutrogena, I have never been disappointed with your products till this past weekend. I used the Pure and Free Baby Sunscreen on my 5 year old daughter because she has sensitive skin. So normally baby products work great because their supposed to be gentle but not your product. It caused a raised chemical burn like rash on both legs. URGENTLY RETEST YOUR PRODUCT. ITS HARMFUL, DO SO BEFORE THIS HAPPENS TO OTHER CHILDREN.
We purchased this sunscreen for our toddler. Unfortunately he developed a horrible rash...which has taken several weeks to resolve. The negative reaction was not until many hours later so it was difficult to attribute to this product until we exposed him to it a 2nd time. Beware of this product--and make sure you read all of the reviews available to you (outside of this site) before you make the same choice. There are many other safer and more gentle alternatives!
I am 6 months pregnant and wanted a sunscreen with no harsh chemicals. I bought Pure and Free baby thinking if it's made with natural ingredients and for babies, then it should be fine for me. Well a couple hours after I applied it to my neck and chest, I started itching severely. Then a little later I was covered with a red, hot, itchy rash everywhere I applied the lotion! That was yesterday, after reading other reviews I guess I can look forward to a couple more weeks of rash misery on top of being pregnant. Thanks a lot Neutrogena.
I wanted a "natural" sunscreen as I am hesitant to use chemical sunscreens on my 2 and 4 year olds. We were in Miami so we were applying it a few times daily while on vacation. After 3 days of use, my son developed a terrible rash on his face and upper chest. There was a dermatologist at the resort who told us it was due to the sunscreen. This product is very problematic and should be reformulated. Please do not use on young children with sensative skin.
This product, that I thought was safe gave my son a rash. Upon reading the rest of the ingredients, I found out that it has an ingredient called retinol palmitate which should never be used on babies or pregnant women. The zinc and titanium are the best protection for the skin, however with this ingredient, it's not something you should use. They need to reformulate the product without that ingredient to make it safe. I guarantee you that is why so many are having reactions.
This product did protect my two year old from getting any sun exposure. However she paid a price. I've used this on several occasions on my 2-year-old and myself and both of us developed raised itchy red, bumpy rashes where it was applied. I had been using another sunscreen but finally figured out it was this product that was causing the rash. I had put it on my arms and the rash was so bad I had to go out and by hydrocortisone cream. Also, the cap had broken off it the bag on the way home from the store!!!!
I have always used Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunscreen SPF 55 and up, and never have had an allergic reaction. Since Pure & Free Baby was more "pure" I thought I would try it. In 2 days I developed a rash on my chest and belly and a little on my legs. The active ingredients are Titanium Dioxide 4.9% & Zinc Oxide 4.7%. These do not appear to be in the other regular (non baby) sunscreen. Can someone at Neutrogena say something informative about this? There are other similar skin reactions in your reviews of this product. Thank you
