This dinnerware set has a classic look within my budget. I also like that you can always buy inexpensive, nice looking white serving pieces to go with it. However, I was disappointed that one of the two sets I ordered had some broken pieces. But, I liked it so much, that I returned the damaged set and ordered another box.
I looked all over for white, elegant dishes and finally found them! They are classy yet durable and make any meal come to life! I am very happy with my purchase!
This white dinnerware set is beautiful. There are six place settings, which is very nice. The color is perfect, and the design is fun yet elegant. We are very happy with this set. My set came perfectly packed and not a scratch on them. They are uniform in color and size, and I enjoy using them. What more could you ask for in an everyday dinnerware set?
A very nice basic set of china, and the embossed hobnail pattern around the edge allows these dishes to transition easily from every day use to a more formal meal. Having service for six is nice, too, because it's just enough for entertaining in my small condo. While I agree with other reviews that some of these plates are a tad lopsided, they are still overall a good value. I do not find them to look "grayish" at all, and they match quite nicely with my other basic white serving dishes, etc. They also look lovely with my gold chargers. I'm happy with these dishes, and I think most others would be as well.
This is my second purchase, fourth set of Gipson dinnerware, and for everyday use, they are perfect! They are not flawless, with a few minor defects but oven-proof quality at this price with free site to store shipping makes them a great value for everyday use. I have and one can place them in the oven to heat, and while I seldom actually do that, it's nice to be able to. But what I have found is that dishes which are oven proof don't craze, crack, and certainly don't shatter from heating food really hot in the microwave like a number of much higher priced dishes which claim to be microwave safe. So in other words, these oven proof dishes stand up to microwaving better than others.
I previously purchased this pattern several years ago, and wanted more, so I ordered. It did not match my previous set. This set was more ivory than my previous set. One of my cups was broken, but overall great condition.
I ordered 2 boxes (sets). They were very different. One set was a true white, the cups were smaller and the saucer did not have a round impression for the cup. The other set was more off white in color, thicker, larger cups, the saucers did have an impression for the cup and the beading around the rims is not the same - wierd. Also, my greatest disappointment is many of the pieces (especially the dinner plates and bowls) are uneven and disfigured. So when you stack them they appear wave-like which makes them look cheap. Not sure how some of these pieces made it through inspection. Otherwise, they are beautiful with a simple and classy design. If you don't mind the waved rims and are not mixing sets, you will probably be happy with them. I am hoping an exchange will solve the problem.
I purchased this because I already have a set of the one photographed and needed more. The photo is the set I already have. When I opened the cups, I immediately noticed they were heavier than the ones I have and that the saucer had an indentation for cups that my set does not. My set is the exact photo and description--White!! What I got was a cream color. The set is pretty and a good value but is not the same as what is photographed in Wal Mart picture and not the same color! I am so disappointed and will wrap it all back up and return to Wal Mart.
I could not be more disappointed with this product. I read the other reviews but didn't think much of them since I already had purchased this product last year. HOWEVER, I ordered a second set this year (because I love it so much) and it was NOTHING like the other set. It is not white at all. It is clearly a creamy tan color. One of the best features about my first set was that the saucers did not have an indentation for the cup so you could use them as dessert plates as well. This is not the case in this set. Also, Gibson has drastically reduced the size of the soup bowl. I measured and it did not even hold 1 cup of liquid. The picture on this website is for an entirely different product that must have been discontinued because the set I got could not have been more different. I will be returning it this weekend.
I ordered two sets of these dishes and the majority of them had major defects. Dirt was imbedded into the paint, which could be clearly seen since the product is supposed to be white. On that note, it's not white its cream. I was able to make one decent set out of the two I ordered but when I went back to exchange the bad set, the product was out of stock indefinitely. Now I'm stuck with one good batch and one bad batch of dishes.
