This camera takes amazing pictures. I have an infant so my husband and I are always grabbing it to capture every little moment. It has fast shudder speed and all my pics have come out clear and crisp. I have a shaky hand so I rarely took pics with our old camera because they always ended up blurry. I have not had that problem with this camera. All the pics are clear and I'm the one taking most of the pictures. The camera does not have live view or video. I thought this would really bug me but it actually doesn't. The awesome pictures make up for it. We've only been using auto mode because we haven't had time to mess with the other function but auto mode gets the job done. I highly recommend this camera especially if you have kids.
This is are first slr camera, and I dont think we could have made a better choice. I have used a friends Rebel, and with the guide mode on the Nikon this camera make it a snap for greenhorns. The pics I have gotten out of this camera are professional quality in my opinion. For the money this is a great camera, for first timers or the more advanced users. would recommend and more importantly I would buy it again for myself.
What a fabulous camera! My first digital SLR. I went to the Nikon website to watch the instructional video for this camera while I was waiting for it to arrive in the mail. When it got here I charged the battery (took about 1 1/2 hours), went outside and took pics in auto mode which was as easy as point and shoot and they came out AMAZING. I can't wait to see what I can do with it in manual. So happy!!!!
First off let me start this review by saying, I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to DSLR cameras. I've always used a point and shoot but with my son being in so many sports and growing up in a flash I decided I needed a better camera, especially because I have been getting into scrapbooking as well. I've been wanting a DSLR for a long time, but couldn't bring myself to spend $800 on a camera. I was in (a store comparable to Walmart) when I walked by this camera and seen it was on clearance. For $300! I bought it on the spot and had a leftover coupon from our wedding registry to save 10% so I ended up only paying $250 for this camera. Yup! $250! What a steal it was! After working with it and watching the Nikon Video that my camera bag came with (totally worth the price!) I felt I had a much better knowledge of how to use it. I was instantly taking great pictures! I love the focus on this camera and how easily it transitions to take pictures. Please keep in mind that it doesn't have a live view screen (meaning you can't see the image on the camera before you take it) but that honestly doesn't bother me at all. You are supposed to take pictures through the viewfinder anyway.. and that makes me feel a little bit cooler (hehe) I'm still working on things like the flash and how to get good night shots, but I think photography will be a continuing learning process for me and I have fun with it! I haven't ventured off of the auto mode a whole lot but hope to shortly! It's light and fits in my hand nicely. I'm really not impressed with the zooming ability on far away objects so I will be purchasing the 80x lense to get better shots of my son in sports! all in all This is a great camera for those proud moms who want a great camera but don't want to spend the big bucks to get one. It's super easy for beginners and you will be taking great pictures in no time at all!!
I didn't buy this camera at Walmart. But I want to give this review because this is an amazing entry level DSLR camera. I just upgraded my point and shoot Nikon Coolpix S50 (discontinued) to this one. Definitly a change. The software that came with the camera I didnt even install. I was told to go with Adobe Photoshop Essentials 8 which goes for around 100.00. Definitly worth the extra money though especially if you decide to take pictures in RAW (not jpeg). I got this camera on a package deal that included the 18-55mm vibration reduction lens (automatically is in the box with the camera) and the 55-200mm vibration reduction lens. You want the Vibration Reduction because otherwise the natural shaking of all hands causes blurred photos. I like the guide option the best. I put it into advanced mode and while going through the options it tells you what it does AND shows you a sample picture of what you might use the feature for. Absolutly would recommend this camera to anyone. Takes great pictures! Make sure you get the UV lens cover and Polorized lense cover for the lenses. Also make sure you get a nice bag. I got the Nikon bag that holds 1 camera body and 4 lenses or 2 camera bodies and 2 lenses. The sunrise picture was taken with the Nikkor 55mm-200mm VR telephoto lens. The flower (Lantana) was taken with the Nikkor 18mm-55mm VR lens. As you can see if you practice and mess with the settings you get AMAZING pictures!
This is a very nice upgrade from point and shoot. I tried the much more expensive Canon Rebels but they were a lot harder to use. This Nikon has a "Guide" mode to let you learn how to take better pictures (something none of the Rebels have). I recommend getting a second lens such as the 55-200 with VR for those less experienced with DSLR. The only thing that would make it better would be a video feature. I took the two pictures attached from about 20 ft away in a dimly lit room, great quality!
Ever since I got my first digital camera about 6 years ago, I have longed for a digital SLR camera. But our budget just wouldn't withstand the $1200 plus price of some of the top DSLR cameras. When I saw this one, I knew it would be my first DSLR camera ! For the price, you can't beat the features. It takes excellent pictures and leaves very little room for error. You can not use live view on the LCD screen which is not a minus for me. I love the look and feel of the old film cameras and am perfectly happy with the fact that you must use the eye piece to view while shooting. This camera is AWESOME ! I am looking forward to taking pictures of the snow in the morning with this ! If you are inexperienced with this kind of camera, this is a great camera to start with.
For the price though they could have included a small chip that you could take some pictures with like up to 15 or 20. and if you wanted more to buy a bigger chip. otherwise really great camera,
This is a great camera for amature photographers, however, certain things will start to become annoying after awhile. Without the flash, the pictures always almost seem to have noise. The flash on this camera is amazing though and gives a nice warm feel to all indoor photos. Not having a screen view was annoying at first but I quickly learned to cope. Also, with no recording what so ever, I felt like this was a set back. Having no one to teach me the basic settings of the camera (exposure, shutter speed, f-stop, ect.) I was confused and most of the time left it on auto mode. I am blessed to know a professional photographer who taught me much of what I know! Overall, it's a great camera, but I am now addicted to photography and am always looking for an upgrade but this was good for awhile!
I just bought the Nikon D3000 about a week ago because i wanted to upgrade from my "point and shoot" camera to a more professional type. So far i would have to say this is a good camera. I have noticed that the colors are distorted a bit.. (Purple looks blue, and some pinks look peach) im not sure if i accidentaly changed something in the settings that changed the color or if thats how the camera is.. I am going to reset the settings and see if that helps. Overall... A+++ :)
