Great camera, I own three Nikon DSLR'S, I would not recommend this camera for a beginner. It is every thing I expected and more.

Absolutely astonishing results are readily available using this camera and Nikon's best lenses. To obtain the best results the use of a stable tripod is advisable. The detail in the landscape photography that I shoot with this combination of camera and the 24-70mm 2.8 lens and the 70-200mm 2.8 VR II lens is breathtaking. No other DSLR in this size even comes close. Using this camera anywhere near its potential does require dedication and diligence. To say that it is complex is an understatement. Photography fanatics will love this camera. Be prepared to make an investment, nothing this good comes "cheap."

After 50 years of Nikon being the best optics out there from Japan, Nikon again has a camera that still puts all contenders of camera bodies light years behind....It's like comparing the Canon A1 to the Nikon Photomic TN all over again.

great camera, still has slight green color shift

4th Nikon DLSR. Great camera, but still has slight green color shift. Color controls don't quite compensate. Overall, happy, given that all photography is a compromise. High MP also means increased noise. 800E might be worth the extra $$$. Rugged -- Have fall down rocks with camera strapped around neck & only one small ding -- buy a padded holster when hiking, climbing! Video is too short; not sure why given memory. Buy fast memory -- at least 90mb/sec. in order to make sure you don't fill the buffer when shooting fast, raw, etc. Buy extra batteries, just in case. Don't need the add on battery case. Buy grip holder -- helps with steadying heavy camera. Works very well with the Nikon flash. Don't scrimp on lens -- buy Nikon. Worth the money. Get some good editing software & shoot raw.
