Although this pan is surprisingly light weight compared to the heavier pans in my Nordicware collection, I am happy with the pineapple upside down cake that I baked yesterday. I used the recipe that came with it, and it was pretty enough for a magazine. Next time, I will reduce the sugar, as it was too sweet for our taste. It has delicious brown sugar added with the pineapple, and It doesn't need all that sweetness in the cake too, in my humble opinion. Sure, you can use any round cake pan, but the built-in indentations of the pineapple slices gives the pretty results of the pineapple being a little higher on the cake. Sort of a 3-D effect, with pretty results. I am very pleased to have this pan.
I haven't actually used this pan yet; but I think it will be just the right size for this type of cake. I was surprized how light weight this pan is, however; it is made by Nordic Ware so I am not at all worried.
I wish the pan was a little deeper and thicker. I used it for the first time the other day and that was my only concern.
The quality of Nordic Ware's baking products have decreased over the years. I was disappointed with a Nordic Ware Bundt pan I had purchased several years back. It was thin and didn't bake well. Never thought the pineapple upside down cake pan could possibly be thinner; however, it was! I did not bake with it because of how poorly thin pans bake. The color was as pictured though. What a pleasant surprise, but I don't plan to keep it.
