A drum and guitar duo, Swearing At Motorists' sparse sound is filled out with some additional guitar from Matt Bowman, tape effects and mostly double tracked vocals. There's a real Americana vibe to the songwriting here, though it never really strays over into country, alt or otherwise. But these are great songs; Dave Doughman writes about commonplace sorrow and hopelessness with an endearing honesty and candor. And he throws in a few great one-liners as well--especially not to be missed is the haunting closer, "Neighborhood of Sirens."
