Excellent choice. This is the third recorder I bought--mainly to record a Meeting which I am Secretary of. My shorthand is not very good at this point and don't want to rely on it. this recorder did a great job--very clear recording even of those who were not seated near me. My other two recorder will be donated to some organization.
The DM-620 is an older version (2011) voice recorder than what Olympus has put out in the past couple years which initially got me to purchase the LS-12 Linear PCM, a version released in 2012. While this is also a good recorder, its predecessor, the DM-620, is feature rich if not more so than the LS-12. The DM-620 is small, compact, and discreet enough to easily fit in your pocket while the LS-12 does not pull this off very well. The DM-620 also comes with 4GB built-in memory, (32GB max). The built-in is enough to record at highest quality for 26.5 hours long and a battery life to match as well. The quality is great for lecture recording from the back of a room 30 computer desks deep to the front of the room. If there are any distractions in the recordings, you also get the Sonority software that allows you to edit your recordings to eliminate background sounds and enhance the audio portions you do want. While the LS-12 will work with the Sonority software, it does not come with it...an additional $30! Again, I originally bought the LS-12 to realize it did not work for me and ended up with the DM-620. I have had it for a couple months now with no regrets whatsoever. I got this for my husband who is more technologically challenged than I am. He is learning to play the guitar and needed a recorder for critiquing his playing. He has been able to figure out how to use it and I have been able to figure out how to put the files onto our computer. It came with software and that had the option to upgrade for 10 dollars so you can transfer to CD's. There was another upgrade available for 50 dollars that we have not purchased. So far this recorder is far above our expectations. The mic's pick up wonderfully! He actually believes it could be used like a hearing aid! He can sit in our living room and hear what goes on throughout the house! He has had it about a month and uses it for several hours a day, every day and so far we have had to charge it twice. The price was higher than some other units that we looked at but I think it was well worth the price.
I have found the learning curve a little steep but like the quality of my recordings.
