I use this in my chiropractic practice mainly because I want my patients to know what their body fat is and how much they are above or below the recommended norms. This monitor is so easy to use, and the information is right there on the screen for patients to see. They love it and I love the ease of use. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
this machine is great, not only does it tell me my weight, but it also tracks my BMI, body fat, muscle, how many calories I should eat daily, body age and visceral fat. once you understand the numbers, you want to make the necessary changes to get healthy and improve your numbers! Power is in knowing! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
i have two clinics , each one had that professional scale for more than 2 years , i never complain from any of them along all the past periode till now . really i love them more than any other equipments in my beloved clinics . really you are so good omron . thank you [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I broke the line in obese class 2 and decided i needed to make a permanent change. After I lost the first 25 pounds I bought the HBF516B and it really motivated me to keep at it. I could see the muscle staying on as the body fat came off, visceral fat at ~14% was a bit scary. But: Just when I reached a "normal" BMI of 25, the error 4 kept happening due both to >45% muscle and < 5% body fat - despite visceral fat at ~9%. My big goal was to be able to measure losing the visceral fat. The scale took me to "just normal" but 3 months after I bought it, lost its ability to help me go farther. I've lost 75 pounds, losing 10 of them after the "Err 4" started. I'd really like to know how much visceral fat is left. (2" less in the belly losing the last 10, but am I done?) Although many websites state that the body fat calculations are largely inaccurate on ALL home scales, I do find the Omron HBF-516 to be consistent in measuring and showing body fat change (which is mostly what I am trying to do from home). Additionally, the scale is very accurate and that is most important to me as I travel my weightless journey. I love how easy it is to use all of the features and store both my info and my husband's neatly. The added bonus of storing many months of data, allowing for a comprehensive review of the process, is pretty awesome. My only suggestion would be to allow bluetooth connectivity to apps so I don't have to enter the data into my fitness trackers. Overall, great product and highly recommend. I've been doing the food lover's diet which has you use a tape measure to determine changes in your body fat %. I was frustrated because based on the formula for this metric, I was getting fatter (from like 12.25 % to 12.75%) even though I could see that I was getting more toned in the mirror. My scale broke, so I explored the current options on the market and saw these digital scales that supposedly measured your body fat by sending a small current through your body. Your fat is supposed to be less conductive than your lean mass so that's how it determines your body fat, and visceral fat (fat around your organs). I'm a former athlete. I'm 5'7" and currently about a 190 lbs. I can still bench press 225 about 6 times; I jogged a mile and a half in about 11 min. (for police exam); I usually finish off my 3rd set of squats with 315 about 5 or 6 times, so I'm not in terrible shape. When you read the book it tells you that if you're too muscular you may have misreadings, but that pretty much means that it can't be but so useful because most of us want to become more toned. It told me that I have a visceral fat rating of about 12 which is supposed to be high and I guess mean that I'm close to having a heart attack, and my 5'11" 313 lbs sister had a visceral fat rating of 10 or so which is supposed to be normal :( It also gave me an initial Body fat % reading of about 30% meaning that I'm carrying more than 50 lbs. of fat. As I've lost a couple of pounds over the last coupld of weeks it did go down (which is the right direction), but it still reads in the upper 20's which is double the reading I was getting from measuring manually. On the bright side, it appears to be very consistent with measuring your weight, so that's pretty much what I use it for.
My wife bought me this a few days ago. It seems pretty accurate. My only complaint is the memory or lack of daily recordings. While the instructions are vague it initially seems the scale would record daily readings. Mine does not. So if you want to track daily you better write the readings down because it's hit or miss if it will record. It definitely did not record any of my readings from this morning. My numbers this morning SHOULD be the low for each stat but all the memory stats show lows from two days ago. So I guess as long as you write everything down it's pretty good. For the price, I'm not certain it's worth it. Perhaps providing better instructions and or description on specifically what it will and will not do would help people make a better decision and not be disappointed to find out after the fact.
There is definitely a learning curve for this product. The tracking sheets that came with the instruction manual were helpful, and I found the rest very informative. The results seemed accurate. I had high hopes for tracking my health gains, but after only 7 months, I wiped it with a damp sponge and the scale completely broke, all data was lost, and it stopped working. I felt overall I had been very careful with it, but it turns out it's very sensitive and you can't really clean it. I'm told they probably won't replace or fix it even though it is less than 1 year because I wiped some dust off it, and that I would probably need to buy another one. After spending what amounted to around $150 on a scale after taxes and shipping, needless to say, I'm a very disappointed buyer. I hoped for more customer support than 'don't bother sending it to repair or replace as (they) are not likely to do either.' I consider this a buyer beware situation. Know that you need to be exceptionally careful with this product if you purchase one. Other than that, I liked it.
I exercise every day by lifting weights and doing cardio. When I measure my BF percentage in the Athlete mode on the old Omron HBF-306. My BF is 18.5%... This new device says I'm 28%!! That's a huge difference. Not sure why Omron didn't include the athlete mode in this fancy model. Disappointed.
I started out @ 155 and 44.7% skeletal muscle, 6.7% body fat, and Visceral fat of 4. I did some weight training etc ate a lot more and gained weight to ~160 lbs all in about 6 days. Now I am getting err 4. Either I went over 50% limit for muscle, under 5% for body fat or under 1 for visceral fat. It shows error 4 for all the values not just the 1 that is out of range. I cant even know what happened. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
