This is a great value. Bought it to make iced frappes and smoothies. Crushes the ice fast. I read all the online reviews and decided on this blender because it met my needs and the price was right. It's a good looking machine. Easy to use. Very happy. It even has an ice crusher button on it. I used the site to store and it came within a few days and was so easy to pick up.
My grandson and I purchased the blender for my daughter-in-law's birthday gift. Our mission was to find a useful gift, He mention a blender, however while shopping for a Oster blender in a local store, he said that's one to buy for $39.99 but being "old school" as he would say, I wanted to price check, I found the same model for $24.99 on Walmart.com and pickup was at my Walmart store within the same day! Saved $15. ! My daughter-in-law loves the Oster blender and uses it almost daily.
To meet production costs the mfr clearly had to cut back on the quality from their top of the line blender, but, I have to say, they maintained very good quality where it really matters. The jar is good, thick glassware. The base fits well and the gasket is good quality material and provides a good seal. Most importantly, the drive shaft from the base to the blades is metal to metal, not plastic like a lot of blenders in this price range. The top fits solidly without any sign of leaking. The switches feel inexpensive but are easy to operate. The label on the front is an inexpensive stick on and may lift off over time. The speed range is good. I bought this to have a good low speed range and I'm happy with this. I have not tried anything that would require high power so I can't comment on that. I would highly recommend this blender unless you need to do some serious chopping. It may work for this application but I don't have any experience to make a recommendation.
I love this blender. I use it everyday for my drink. I use 4 ice cubes and it crushes them in 2 pulses. It is so fast and so sharp. I had a Kitchenaid for years. All my appliances are Kitchenaid, but this is better than that, and I payed A LOT more for my old blender. Rethinking expensive brand names now.
Pro:The glass blend bowl is easy to clean and the metal gear under the blend blades meshes well with the motor spindle. The unit is powerful and blends very well. There is a wide selection of speed choices. Con: Unit is very noisy, vibrates very strongly (even the speed control button are vibrating), and wants to dance across the counter.
It's fine if you are on a tight budget like I was when I bought it. The thing I don't like is the fact that it makes my smoothies frothy (bubbly), I'm pretty sure that froth causes gas or something; for me it just makes it hard to drink it with the froth. Soon I will be investing in a more powerful brand if I continue to make smoothies. Right now I make 1 a day. I read online that sometimes the cheaper blenders force air into the machine causing the froth and this may cause the fruit and veggies to lose its quality....just saying.
The blender seems to be pretty standard so far. I have only used it for smoothies and it seems to work pretty well. It is definitely very loud when in use but I think that is pretty standard for a blender. It is easy to clean (love that you can put it in a dishwasher!). I would recommend this especially for the price for someone who wants a standard blender.
It leaves a cheap feeling. The bottom is too small and if you blend just fruits and veggies for a smoothie, you may have troubles starting, as there is an empty space under them and the knives rotate in vain. Also motor smells bad and you have to control the speed through the different modes manually. Compared to my old one, this one is a trouble.
I bought this tried it out and leaked all over on the first use. The rubber washer at the base of the glass blender was defective and was broke. Very disappointed, now it just sits on my counter taking up space. The funny thing is I read some reviews about this happening to other people and thought it wouldnt happen to me. Now I have to buy a rubber washer.
Poor quality! Already came with a plastic base that makes the engine inside its broken! This plastic is terrible and has no mechanical resistance. The quality level of Ostem is falling .....
