It's actually everything that I ever wanted in a laptop. A sizeable 1080p matte screen, yet a very manageable form factor, responsive and fast in performance mode, yet also has long battery life (6+ hours) when running in power save mode. A back lit keyboard with number pad (programmable back lite is very cool), dedicated graphics card, fast ssd and also large hdd. It has all the ports I wanted; hdmi, ethernet, usb3, sd, headphone, mic. There will be fan noise while taxing the cpu and gpu, but I think it's normal and I usually have earbuds on anyway so it doesn't bother me. At least it doesn't overheat like my old 17" Macbook Pro. Built in speakers are equivalent to most phones, but I don't ever use them since I usually use earbuds or a sound system. I actually like that they didn't waste money on trying to get "good" speakers. They also didn't waste money on a touchscreen nor some kind of gimmicky way for it to be folded into a tablet form factor. I like that it's a generic design. If you don't like the logo, just cover it up with a sticker.
What's not to like? Excellent gaming performance on a budget. Only reason I'd look anywhere else would be if I wanted a bigger screen. Then I'd buy the 17" Overpowered laptop. No idea how long these process will hold up but I'm glad I got mine when I did!
Finally managed to snag one at this price after checking daily for week! Incredible bargain as the Keyboard/backlighting are great, the screen is incredible, great performance with gaming and photo editing Cons: +edges are indeed pretty sharp +audio is a bit quiet overall +battery is weak But those are pretty minor issues i expected upon order, 5/5 Very happy with purchase!
I like this laptop and I use it every day. It's lightweight and the screen is beautiful, plus I was able to get it on sale. I had to send this in for warranty just within a year, but they were very responsive and was able to service it quickly. Fantastic customer service on their end. The only gripe I have is the keyboard layout and spacing, I find myself hitting the wrong characters, but other than that, they keyboard itself is nice to type on. Laptop speakers could be better.
I've very pleased with this unit. The display is amazing and the entire unit is a great value. There are always things that could be better but at this price you won't be disappointed. Great gaming experience with a variety of games with the settings turned up. Love the fact that the laptop didn't come up with a ton of "free" software bloat and the unit just continues to delight me
It has everything I was looking for, and more. For $799, it hit my budget whereas other laptops with similar specs were priced much higher. It has felt like most laptops have had inflated prices lately, and it was nice to see this available at this price- I hope these low prices help drive down competitors prices as well as that would be good for everyone. Companies always charge a premium for "new" stuff, yet technology is suppose to make the industry work more efficiently and with lowered costs, so why do prices continually go up? Anyways, the only thing that I could see improved on this laptop would be the keyboard. The mechanism under the keycaps can tilt left or right (this is undesirable) if the key is pressed lightly on the top corners, which might not press the key fully. It's not too much of an annoyance, but it requires more precision to your typing whereas my previous laptop was more forgiving in that regard. The keyboard also has very flat keys that are spaced close together, so it is easy for a finger to press another key if it is hanging off the edge so as to rub and press another key. This is why keyboards with deeper travel have tapered keys so that the fingers can press down on the edge and not rub against the neighboring key. It also makes it more difficult to feel the keyboard layout since the keys are close together and flat, and basically all the same shape. Over time I might be able to get comfortable with it, but if they want to improve their laptops, this is something they should keep in mind (tapered keycaps, and less wobbly mechanism underneath). So with that said, It's still great for the price. The keyboard, while not the best, is still manageable once you become more familiar with the layout. The screen is very bright and colorful, and the cpu/gpu performs very well, etc. Laptop boots up fast in basically just a few seconds. It runs silently when not doing much, and gets subtle fan when needed, and if you game it can get louder. You can also boost the fans to cool stuff down quickly too, which is nice to have that kind of control. So I think, the only thing you really have to consider when buying this is if the great price will allow you to overlook the downsides of the keyboard.
At $799, you're not getting a better gaming laptop. I'm not even sure how they made any money on these, and the fact that I had to come here via a saved link and couldn't search for it tells me it may have been delisted for that very reason. The only downside is the cooling. It sounds like a jet engine and even elevated with a cooling platform, the parts of the case near the fans can get hot enough to be alarming if you touch them.
This laptop gets a lot of hate from the PC community, but let's make it clear, this is not the same as the OP desktops. Tonfang manufactures these for Walmart and Walmart puts their name on it. Some of the branding might be garish, but under the hood this thing is a beast for a laptop. With some light tweaking, the i7-8750H really shines (See pic). Same specced laptops in the same chassis from other system integrators are well over $1100. At $799 this laptop is a steal. Grab it while you can.
Everything you need to know about this laptop you can watch from this video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q13t_r8o4rY Caveat: get yourself a dual channel kit or just pop in another 16GB stick to make it dual channel to avoid throttling. Other than that, for $800 it is a great value proposition for the parts that you're getting. Keep in mind it is still a plastic chassis so you do have to baby it a little bit. Regardless, if you treat your gear well, your gear should treat you well as well. It's a policy I've always tried to keep with my own personal gear (as well as people). Do onto others as you would have them do onto you. Happy Holidays and Happy Gaming. ;-)
The specs are an excellent value for the money. That's where the good ends. I am very torn as to this unit. First of after owning for several days and using non stop and currently writing the review on it, the keyboard is very sub-par. I can't count how many mistakes I made so far... It really is not "mechanical" at all but rather some sort of proprietary clicking sounding mushy mechanism. I often miss key registers by not pressing hard enough, and sometimes double type (period symbol happens all the time) This is my biggest criticism. It is the most important part of the machine since it's used the most and feels very half-baked. Keys slope weirdly outward and I often find myself hitting the wrong key. It also feels cramped. The numerical pad did not need to be included and it would have been better to space the keys out better. Case is nice and sturdy, but does have sharp edges that will dig into your skin depending on how you are resting your hands on the laptop. Screen is nice and bright for a gaming laptop, with nice color gamut, however there is significant light bleed coming in from the bottom, visible on black and dark gray backgrounds. The 144hz panel is great for games that will utilize those high refresh rates. This means mostly older titles like CS GO and the like. The battery life is abysmal, but this is somewhat ok with a gaming laptop. Trackpad is absolute trash. Tracking is bad, and clicking feels laborious. Lack of thunderbolt 3 port is disappointing paired with rest of specs. RGB and overall look of the machine is nice. I will not be keeping this unit. My biggest gripes and reason for return are the bad keyboard and the light bleed on the screen. The two things we use the most on our machines should have been perfect, and I would have been able to overlook the rest.
