These are great perches, and I use them in every birds cage I have either as a perch or a swing type I never have to trim my birds nails or beaks I am a hobby breeder and my birds love these yes the colors will rub off on to the bird BUT go check your toys get a paper towel damp and rub it on that colored block your bird loves so much THE COLOR comes off its because its food dye! Yes it stains their feathers- does NOT harm them one bit its nothing but calcium. it wears off as they molt. no reason to complain or give a great product a bad review, You can buy a 2 in 1 cuttle bone - mineral block on the outside(mineral block is colored)Cuttle bone on the inside these will also turn your bird what ever color the mineral block is if they use them It causes NO HARM AT ALL, I've had an Albino Parakeet turn completely pink from her 2 n 1 - I was Grateful to see she used it! after she molted the pink out, She got a yellow one and turned yellow Again I was grateful she was using her mineral/cuttle bone K&M Breeding - we recommend these perches
Have used before with other birds. Great perch and beak trimmer. He likes it better than cuttlebone.
I purchased 2 of these perches - I bought them because the packaging stated the birds could nibble on them same as when they use a cuttle bone, that it would condition their beaks and help keep their nails trimmed - as well as being a really nice diameter for them to perch on - thus getting proper foot exercise. I had recently brought home a new parakeet - pastel in color and after a few days of playing on and perching on this thing - she began to turn pale orange! She is pale dove gray and pale buttery yellow and now she looks silly and unnatural. I have tried washing the coloring off - which it will not do - I may have to wait for the fall moult for her to get her natural coloring back. When I removed the perches I lightly rubbed a tissue on them and to be honest - this is more like sidewalk chalk than something beneficial or good for anyone's pet bird. I have contacted the company to ask why they put these dyes in such a product but have not heard back yet. If you love your pet bird and do not want them to turn an artificial color - do not purchase this. I am very unhappy and unhappy for my new pet.
