Love this feeder and the price is so reasonable. My squirrels really like it and it is so fun to watch them on it. After I got this one, I ordered another one. I recommend this highly.
It's been up a week. Took a day for my squirrels to discover it. One figured it out in about a half hour. The other one can't figure out how to open the lid so he manages to get the glass up just a bit and gets to the feed that way from below. He is now determined to get the glass out so he is chewing away at the side and the lid. It will probably be destroyed by the end of the week and that will be it for my squirrel feeder attempts
Squirrels figured it out right away. The lid is not too heavy for them to lift. No air tight. Heavy rain will dampen the food. BUt a great purchase. PRice is the best around for a cedar feeder.
We had a similar feeder in our yard, but it is not very deep, and OK the Blue Jays were able to reach inside and get the peanuts out. We bought this feeder because it is deeper and it works very well. The Blue Jays cannot get inside. It's easy to install and we would recommend it to anyone who wants a good squirrel feeder at a very reasonable price. Installation hint: If you are in an area where you get much rain, you might think about installing the feeder so it slants down just a little bit. The rain will not run inside and get the food wet.
These are great squirrel feeders but disappointed that we bought them at the store a couple of years ago for $10 and now they're $25. A little high.
I'm in love with these squirrel feeders! After browsing online for hours I checked in with Walmart and found the exact same ones for half the price! I immediately ordered two for pick-up at the store. Admittedly, I was a little taken aback by the pinkish / purplish hue of the cedar at first, but I went and picked up a small tin of stain and after two coats they came up a beautiful hazelnut brown. The mounting process was a breeze - 2 screws hold the piece up, and a smaller, removable screw holds the clear acrylic piece that displays the nuts. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to feed their neighborhood squirrels! 5 stars from me :)
We love these cedar feeders. Helps being strong so when the raccoons get into the feeders, they don't break.
It took the squirrels 2 days to notice it, today I saw them visiting many times. They don't have any problems lifting the lid as you can see in one of the pictures I took. The only detail is that they leave a mess under the feeder, since they only eat part of the food I put there and the rest falls on the ground. I'm ok with that since it's on an area in the backyard that I don't care if the ground gets full of half eaten critter food.
I noticed this same item online for much more. I though the Walmart item might be an inferior knock off. In fact it was the same well constructed item as described. FYI the Walmart online order/pick up item system works great. Walked in, went to the pick up counter, the helpful employee gathered the item and I was on my way. Great system!!
