Worked great on old camaro. Great for older cars that do not have struts or coil over suspension.
Bolt was too long for my 66 Mustang. Instead of cutting the bolt shorter, I made a 3” spacer using 3/4” steel pipe and an extra washer. This made the top of the bolt stick up higher in the shock tower making it much easier to get to and compressed the spring easily.
This worked great on my 55 Chevy, took the top hooks off, ran the main rod through the shock hole on the top and feed the bottom hooks in through the bottom A-frame. Compressed the spring and removed the lower A-frame. I lubed the threads with a dry spray lube and everything worked great.
I saw this product in a youtube video of a guy doing a similar job that I needed it for. I have a GM A-body muscle car and I needed to swap to some lower springs. I couldn't find this thing anywhere. Finally found it here and it worked like a charm. No gripes or complaints from me.
I shopped several places for this tool. Others suppliers had the same tool for twice as much money and more! I used this Coil Spring Compressor to remove the front springs from my '66 Mustang. Other style compressors (such as for struts) don't fit well and are unsafe for this application. This tool paid for itself in one hour! If you do this work as an occupation or hobby you need this tool, and you won't find a better bargain!!!
I had rented 2 different spring compressors from tool stores and spent hours trying to compress my spring and they both kept falling off the spring. I bought this tool and BAM with in 1 hr I was all done. Great tool and would buy it again if needed.
I would not have been able to reassemble my truck without this tool. Very effective. The only issue was the thrust washers got destroyed in use so I will need to replace them before next use.
A spring compressor has to have pins that remove these don't remove
I purchased this piece of equipment for replacing the coil springs on my '55 Chevy. It was the biggest waste of money I ever spent at Northern. It would not hold the spring tight and there was no way to get it to work, no matter what I tried. I finally had to give up as it kept slipping after a small amount of pressure was placed on the spring, and that's not good. To complete the job I had to get the compressor from another source. I took it back to the store with no problems. Usually what I buy from Northern works great, but this tool was not worth the metal it was made of.
This item was easy to set up , but did nothing to compress the springs on my car....I screwed the bolt pretty much all the way and it still did not compress the spring..
