Seems like I've tried em all and this Perky Pet Grand Master is the best of the bunch (not perfect, but as good as it gets). My only complaint is that there aren't bigger feeders available as even with these 48 oz feeders, I still need to refill them every day (and I use 2:1 nectar rather than 4:1 to lessen the number of feedings each hummer has to make to get the necessary calories). With several hundred strong hummer flock, I need 6-8 feeders and I go thru about 700 lbs sugar a year. This feeder is far and away the easiest to clean and fill of any of the feeders I've owned - you can get your hand inside both the base and the top acrylic part for easy cleaning. A small brush to wipe the corners is all that is needed. And a clean feeder (and unspoiled nectar) is far and away the most important thing you need... To get the "perfect" feeder, I'd like to see more feeding ports (I've modified other feeders to handle 12 hummers at a time, but due to the special feeding ports and lack of continuous perch on this model it's not possible on this feeder). As for those who want glass container, it would be too heavy for a feeder with 48 oz capacity. And I prefer acrylic anyway - far more durable when you inevitably drop one...
I was looking for a feeder that did not leak. This feeder was recommended by a friend and it is what I wanted. Had a humming bird soon after putting it up and no leaks!
I feed hummingbirds every summer and have 100+ hummers, so I'm grateful to find this larger sized feeder. I was reluctant to use acrylic for so many years, but it works well and these are easy to clean. You have to be gentle with them when attaching the base. I dropped one feeder to the ground and the bottle cracked, but I patched it with superglue and it is still useable. I started with 2 of these feeders and now have 5 and I would love to have more!!
Flower (yellow) insert content bottom is opened above the red flower connection to the red plastic base and will drip fluid constantly if not inserted and connected to a glue controlled base cover.
This is a fun gift for my 87 year old mother who adores hummingbirds. We have several small feeders already and this giant one will be no doubt be the highlight... Fill it and they will come!!!
I absolutely love the size of this feeder. I now have two large size feeders and still fill them once a day. Lots of hummingbirds but I love them!! I counted 12 (either at the feeders or in the air) last night.
This feeder fills easily and the cylinder section is very easy to clean. Hummingbirds have no trouble using the individual stands. Only issue: when closing the unit, lining up the base to the cylinder can be tricky at times.
I ordered two of these feeders and both arrived broken. One of them was not only broken but was also missing parts. I made the 30 minute drive to Walmart and returned them. I also bought a 30 ounce glass feeder and I am happy with that one.
We have had one of these for a few years and it is great so we thought we would get another. This one fell completely apart the second time we used it. The bottom will not stay attached. We hung it up with the food in it and the bottom fell off dumping the sugar water all over the ground. For the price I am really disappointed.
Before I bought this I read in the reviews comments concerning it leaking the syrup. Yep. I put it together, hung it up and it immediately started dripping syrup out of it. Not a good story. I will see if I can repair it as one other customer gave directions how they had fixed theirs. Sad. Perhaps WalMart should take issue with this product cause it's really nice looking. But it should not leak.
