I ordered the Aluminum, extreme weather dog door for my 23 in tall boarder collie/spaniel mix and my 14 in tall pit/boxer mix. The size is perfect for both dogs. I played around with the placement of the dog door on the house door, so I could have a flush seal all the way around the dog door frame(see pic). It installed easily without any issues. The extreme door has two plastic flaps sandwiching a thicker insulation flap. Because neither one of my dogs had ever used a dog door, I removed one of the plastic flaps and the insulation flap to get the dogs used to using it. They learned quite easily and are doing great after I reinstalled the flaps. Uninstalling and re-installing the flaps was just a matter of removing the screws along the top of the inside of the door. While I had the flaps removed, I noticed that there was very little drafting around the single remaining flap due to the strong magnets and such a good fit around the flap. Non plastic screws and a slide in (not clip in) solid door were a big part of picking this door and I'm completely satisfied with my purchase.
I replaced my back door with a door that already had a pet door installed in it. Even though the frame was still sturdy the flaps were worn and needed to be replaced as I felt like I was heating the outside here in Montana. It was a pretty old pet door and the flaps are discontinued. Contacted PetSafe and they were amazing to say the least! They got me set up with a XL Extreme Weather Pet Door and my Newfoundlands could not love it more. They go in and out all day long and I feel that I am not hearing the outside anymore! It was easy to install too! Win win! Highly recommend this company and their products!
I have three large dogs that broke the one we had previously. we just unstalled the extreme weather model in a large. we've had subzero temps here in Kansas, and it's been working like a dream.
So far Im impressed with this doggie door. Not only does it have a durable frame but the magnet sweep and flaps are well made. Took a few days for my dogs to get used to it but now it's a revolving door.
This is a good door that works very well. It keeps the weather out and my dog goes through the door easily both ways. If you put it in a door with steps keep in mind the height of your animal on exiting and entering through the door.

After installation we had a rain storm , and not one drop of water got in that door ! It's given our dogs extra freedom to go into our back yard when they want ! The size of the doggie door is XL , and you can see in the picture referenced below that it's the perfect size for our animals ! My family loves it & we are so happy that we added this to our house . Other than cutting the hole out in the door , this was a breeze to instal ! We are thinking about getting another one for the laundry room connecting to the kitchen now too so they can venture in and out all the doors as they please . Very happy with this product !
Works as described, was a little tricky to cut the steel door, but the product covered my imperfections. Will recommend to others for future use.

It's heavy duty and was such a easy install. Would recommend to any one needing a well made and tough pet door that will stand up to whatever weather or your pet can throw at it.
Great pet door! Has the extra insulated flap to keep climate control measures in place and drafts at a minimum. Was not super hard to put in. Cutting the hole hardest part. Big tip. Make sure the opening you cut is Square so door goes in without going in at angles. Make sure you have caulking for additional draft control if you cut too large an opening. Goes in well and just pay exact attention to which side the sliding cover is, (should be on the inside!). Otherwise it went in pretty well. My older, fat lab uses it with ease(XL size).
I bought the Extreme Weather Aluminum Pet Door with the hopes that the exterior flap wouldn't break off like I had happen on the non-extreme version. I bought this extreme weather door in the spring and now that we are into the winter months, the exterior flap disappointingly broke off during our first blast of cold temps. I'd put "extreme" in quotes or add an asterisk next to it because it cannot hold up in cold temps.
