This is the smoothest, best shaving electric razor i've ever used and I have been an electric razor user for over 30 years. It's easy and fast to clean. I continuously get more than the listed 20 shaves from a single charge. Highly recommend.
I have used Norelco rotary razors for years. Twice in that time, I tried foil razors just to be sure I was not missing out on a better shave. Most recent, I tried the Panasonic Arc4 which was a decent shave, but loud, and had numerous places on my face that it just didn't want to shave well without going over, and over, and over it. Went back to my old Norelco for a month or two, and finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to the SensoTouch 3D. Just a week in, and it already shave better than anything I have had previously. My beard is course and lays very flat against my face. For me, you just cannot beat a rotary Norelco.
No complaints. I am getting the a shave of a regular razor after a week of allowing my skin to adapt. Battery is long lasting. Was hesitant because of the price but now I have no regrets.
I've only had this razor just over a week. So far it is the best razor I've ever had in my entire life and I am 52 yrs old. I've always used electric and mostly always Norelco but I have tried other brands. This is the closest shave I've ever had. I just hope it continues as the razor is used more and more. This shave is way better than any new razor I've ever tried. I dry shave. Other razors would never give me the perfect shave this razor does. Other razors have been rough on my face causing iritations while still leaving stubble. This razor gives me a nice clean shave and it just glides over my skin and I can barely feel it where other ones you can feel it. I figured because I couldn't feel it it wasn't giving me a good shave but it is just incredible the shave I get. My only complaint is the cost but I hope this razor will last longer than the other razors that I've discarded after a year or so always trying to find something better. If it lasts longer the cost will justify itself. I'm hoping it lasts forever but even if it doesn't so long as it lasts longs enough I will purchase an identical one!
I have always thought the Philips Norelco shavers were super cool looking - very futuristic. I had never tried a rotary shaver before and was hesitant to move away from the foil type shavers that I have used for years. I decided to give it a try. The first thing I noticed when I turned it on was how quiet it is. MUCH quieter than my Panasonic which my wife has always complained about. The first shave wasnt great but I know you are supposed to give your beard a chance to get used to a new type of shaver. Been using for about a month now and the shave is pretty close and very comfortable. After the first charge, I let the battery drain almost all the way. This took nearly a month! Time will tell if this shaver continues to perform well but so far I am very happy with it.
I have been using this product for wet shaves and it is exvcellent, though it does take time. I would recommend it highly above any blade shaving system, though it doesn't give as close a shave. It does pretty well, though, given the fact that it considerably reduces burns and nicks produced by conventional blades.
I just received two RQ12 replace heads and they are not up to standard. I am very disappointed that the replacement heads are not the same as the original shaving head. I will not purchase any more replacement heads and will toss the razor as soon as the 2nd replacement head is worn.
This is my 3rd Philips razor and the best in terms of a close shave. It's also very quiet. The battery seems to last me about 10 - 12 days on a full charge. Had it lasted as long as my previous razor, I'd have given this a 5 star rating. The spectra 8894 XL typically lasted 24 days - which meant I could save space and leave the cord at home - even on 3 week vacations. If you are traveling longer than a week with the 1290X/40 - you'll need to pack the cord and stand. 2 issues here: 1. You can't plug the cord directly into the razor - you have to use the stand. 2. You can't fit the cord and stand into the travel case, so will need to pack elsewhere Overall though - very happy with this purchase - best electric shave thus far.
After many years of using foam & razor, I was really looking forward to the convenience of moving to an electric. I wanted the best shave possible, so I went with the best one (1290X) from the best company (Norelco). I was expecting the temporary rash until the skin becomes conditioned and the loss of closeness, so I was not surprised by these items. However, after a couple of weeks, my skin did become conditioned just as Philips had predicted provided I don't put too much pressure of the shaver on the skin. But the loss of closeness is much worse than expected. It is not a close shave at all. Right after shaving, my three year old granddaughter often asks, "Why didn't you shave today, grandpa?" I'm also disappointed in the amount of 'work' and time required. I thought just a pass or two over the area would do, but you have to move it in circular patterns over the entire area about 12-15 times to get even a somewhat acceptable closeness. When using wet or with foam, the shaver seems to glide across the skin more smoothly than on bare skin, but it doesn't seem to result in any better quality of shave and makes the shaver clean-up more difficult and messy. Lastly, Norelco has done much more research in electric shaving using rotary type cutting than I, but at least for my use, I think the foil type back-and-forth type razor might be more to my liking and plan to try one of those before giving up on electric shaving altogether. In summary, I am very disappointed in the overall shave provided by this shaver.
