I've always been a "Blade Man" but my wife got me this electric razor for my birthday (Norelco AT815). Have to admit its fast, efficient and quit comfortable to use, shave is not as close as a blade but the trade off is the speed and less mess. Would highly recommend.
I decided to buy this shaver after dismal performance from 'another' well-known rotary shaver. Because I'm a boater, I particularly appreciate good battery life...being able to go quite a few days without 110v charging. I actually got 22 full days shave on the first charge, not only because of the powerful Lith-ion battery, but also because the shaver gets all the whiskers in a single pass...no need to keep going over the same area, like before. And when travelling, it's nice not to have to carry a charging stand. It's quick, quiet, and lightweight...and runs forever...and gives a great, close, comfortable shave. What's not to like?!?
I have tried a lot of shavers in my lifetime. This one is the best. I used it both wet and dry. The mode where you use the electric function to shave with shaving cream is the best shaving experience. Your skin is softened and the shave feels as close as a real razor shave. However, because the saver is electric, you cannot cut yourself shaving. It is very effective at reaching the bad shaving zones of your face, places that are otherwise hard to shave, such as the area between your neck and chin. You can take the shaver in the shower if you like, it seems to be pretty waterproof. The circular shaving heads work well and the grip is nice too.
I love being able to wash my face and shave at the same time each day. I can also take it in the shower with me as needed. It is so easy to clean and the charge is good for hours on end. I can honestly say that I love this product and I have been instrumental in several friends purchasing one for them selves
The razor give a good shave, very quiet, easy to handle very smooth. Only draw back is you can't shave with it plugged in like my old one did. I've got use to it wish it had a battery gauge when I need to plug back in.
I previously had a Braun series 3, but since my hair grows in so many directions, I had to make multiple passes over many areas of my face. I returned it and tried the AT830, my first rotary shaver. At first I was concerned about the lift & cut feature, since I'm prone to ingrown hairs but so far I haven't had any problems. This shaver gets almost all the hairs in a single pass! There are only a few areas of my face that I have to go over again and the second time gets it done. I did some research on an electric shaver forum and read the manual before I bought it. The key is to use slow circular movements and use a VERY light touch to let the lift & cut do its job. My shave only takes about 5 or 6 minutes vs 10-12 minutes with the Braun. As far as the wet shave feature, I prefer dry shaving but I tried it once and didn't get a very good shave, it missed more hairs because it just glided over them but you may get better results...some people swear by wet shaving. I paid extra for this model not because it's a wet/dry shaver but because it has a pivoting head and a 1 hour charging time. If you are planning on buying this shaver here are some tips: 1. Use it exclusively for at least 3 weeks and don't use any other shaver or razor. It takes time for your beard and face to adapt to a new shaver, especially if you are used to blade shaving. This is not a marketing trick it is a fact. 2. Wash your face first preferably with an oil removing glycerine soap like Neutrogena and let it completely dry for 15 minutes. 2. Use VERY light pressure, harder pressure will only irritate your skin and not give you a closer shave. 3. Wash the shaver after every shave. 4. Electric shavers are a very personal thing. One shaver may work great for one person but not good at all for another. The key is finding which shaver is right for YOU. You will eventually discover weather s rotary or foil is suited for your face, and even which brand works best for you. All electric shaver company offer a money back guarantee ranging form 30-60 days so don't be afraid to try several types. Patience is a must. 5. It may seem like a lot of work, but once you find which shaver works for you it will be worth it! Soon I will post a video review on YouTube and Amazon so keep an eye out!
Shaver charging cord has great length. Easy to use. Gives a great shave dry or wet. Grip is super comfortable. Nice protective cover for shave heads. Would give 5 stars if it wasn't so bulky. Trimmer pops up and is great for sideburns and mustache trimming. Highly recommend.
I got this for my boyfriend to try and here is his review: "Let me start off by saying I've always been a manual razor shaving type of guy. Moving to an electric razor is definitely a change! Despite my best efforts, I cannot replicate the closeness I get with a razor. However, I think there are plenty of perks that'll keep me using it. 1) I never have to buy shaving cream again! While the instructions say you can use it with shaving cream, I find no real reason to. There's a slight tingling sensation afterwards, but nothing that feels like razor burn. 2) No shaving techniques required. Despite my best efforts, I can't seem to cut myself. That's a good thing! It didn't matter what direction my facial hair was growing in, the Norelco got the job done. 3) It's faster. The first time took some getting used to, but after you're acquainted, a smooth face is 30-45 seconds away 4) Girlfriend pleaser. While usually I'll let my stuble grow out a bit before cutting (blame it on the laziness with a dash of "rugged look"), the razor so quick and easy, I don't mind using it frequently. I'm sure my girlfriend appreciates NOT having to feel scruff against her skin."
This is my third or fourth Norelco. After using this shaver for a few months, the closeness of shave has fallen from very good to maybe average. A tab has broken on the plastic dust cover making it fall off. A travel case is not provided. I use my previous shaver's case to protect it between shaves. The AC charger is cheaply made. The last Norelco cord, was heaver gauge and coiled making it easy to store. Because of these shortcomings, I will be looking to another brand shaver for my next purchase.
I have sensitive skin, that is why i went for a machine that could work wet. However the shave is not as close as advertised, and sometimes you need a high number of passes to shave hairs on "easy" areas. On more complicated areas, the results are not good, particularly around the neck. On the bright side, I do appreciate the battery life, since it takes me a while to shave with this unit, I have used it for long runs without the need for re-charge
