This product is priced very well! I would buy it definitely! Good features and easy to use.
That if anything happens it's recorded
I've seen these dash cams I was a little worried about the video quality but it is crisp definitely a must have for people who drive for a living
This would be great for my bikers
I like that it records continually night or day and with audio as well. When you get into an accident and need to have proof to show the courts, this is a perfect gadget. Also being able to upload it to computer is really neat as well. One great thing about it is when there's a crash it sends a trigger to the dash cam to automatically save the recording.
I have just spent 2 days trying to figure out how to use the Pilot Dash-Cam portable DVR. Have read the user manual several times. The wordage in the manual does not exactly match the wordage on the units controls. The user manual is also lacking in other areas. It described what settings could be set but did not describe what the items were such as G-sensor, light frequency, TV out, etc. I had to google these terms on the internet to decide which settings I wanted to use. FYI - the manual states to press OK, but there is not a button on the unit labeled OK. The OK button is the button with the white dot on it next to the power button. After many tries and failures, I was able to record a sample video at the highest definition offered on the unit. See the link to YouTube video below. I basically only want to use the dash-cam as a video recorder to capture my drives along roads in the mountains such as the curvey Dragon in North Carolina. If this is all you want to use the DVR for, then you should be able to get it setup. As you can see from the video I posted, the picture quality is good. The DVR can be put in picture mode, audio mode, playback mode or loop recording mode but I found the instructions on how to do this to be a bit confusing. So if you want to use this DVR to record every moment you are driving so if you get in an accident you have video proof of what happened be prepared to try many different setups before you achieve the results you want. The fully charged battery drained 1/3 of its power within one hour of use. The 4GB SD card which came with the unit was completely full after only 25 minutes of 1080 HD recording. The unit comes with a car charger which can be used while you are recording. I just didn't like the idea of having a cord coming down from my windshield so I fully charged the DVR before using it. The manual also states that if you leave the car charger plugged in, the unit will turn on and off as the car starts and stops. In this mode the DVR is always on as you drive. I charged my unit using an A/C adaptor instead of using a USB connection to a computer as stated in the manual. When I used the A/C adaptor, the unit turned on and automatically started recording. I either had to remove the S/D card or manually stop the recording to stop the DVR from recording. Another thing it took me 2 hours of fumbling around to accomplish was to change the start up picture. This is one of those things not mentioned in the manual but it appears on the LCD menu. I assumed that the port labeled TV-OUT would allow me to attach the unit to a television and view my DVR's on a big screen. The cord to accomplish this was not included in the box. But I have a cord that fit into the circular hole on the DVR and has yellow, red and white plugs on the other end. However, after attaching all the cords the video would not play on my TV.
Boy this is gonna be a hard review to write. I don't really know much about cameras and some of the stuff in the book that comes with this camera is just a little above my head which as the saying goes an inch is as good as a mile. But lets get into this and I'll do the best I can. lets get into this thing. It's a cam recorder in other words it will take motion pictures. You can mount it on the dash of your car or as in my wife's case hang it from the top of your windshield with the mount provided. Speaking of the mount it has a very good suction cup with a switch that makes it really stick to any smooth surface i.e. dashboard or windshield. It is adjustable so you can point it in any direction you want. The camera itself is pretty simple it has an on/off button and a record button on the back. The screen will turn in any direction and lock in the four compass points and will stop in between but not lock. Speaking of the screen it is a clear, bright 2.5 inch HD LCD picture. The camera will take up to a 32GB SD card. The kit itself comes with the camera and the suction cup mount, a car charger with a nice long cable so you can plug it in anywhere you have a power port in your car. It also has what they call a USB adapter which is nothing more than a cable that plugs into a USB port and the side power port on the side of the camera and it is shipped with a 4GB SD card. Two more things I should mention the camera is equipped with infrared for better night viewing and motion detection so it will start recording when something moves. I mention before about the screen that folds down for viewing that has a great picture. Underneath the screen they're are four little buttons Menu, Down, Up, and mode. You're going to have to read the instruction book that comes with it to find out what these buttons do cause I'm still working on that myself. My wife and I hooked it up the other day for one of our trips down to the VA in Salisbury NC, when we got home we brought it in and hooked it up to our PC and started playing the trip all over again. I went and took a nap once you've made that 80 mile trip you really don't want to watch a video of it.
I was very excited to try out this product. However, I am still trying to learn how to use it's many features and modes. I had to call Pilot's help desk (800-237-7560) to get advice on how to properly remove the SD Card. The manual says "To remove the SD Card, press the card lightly: it is partially ejected allowing you to pull the card out." What they fail to mention is that the side door must be opened first. The door being made of plastic I was unsure of how to do this without braking the plastic part. I have continued to read the manual step by step to try and utilize all the features. I still have not been able to figure out how to playback my video or voice recording. I have watched some You Tube videos which have been helpful. I will be appealing to my friend who has a similar dash cam to get some much needed 1:1. I am fairly tech literate but this has been challenging. This is one reason I have only given it an average rating, but I am hopeful mastery will come soon.
I got this for my husband who is a truck driver. It takes to one to five minute long videos. If you do not save current video it just loops around once memory card is full. But you can make it save certain videos. You have to turn it on when you get I to the vehicle. But once on it has automatic recording feature. So when it starts recoding once you start moving. It also has automatic off feature so if your not moving for a certain amount of time it turns off. The screen is a couple inches big. The quality of the screen is horriable. And play back on the computer is awful as well. You can make out what's going on but it not very detailed at all. It is not deleting the videos off the memory card anymore. And because of this it is not working the way it was before. I keep trying to delete them but it just keeps saying memory full. So maybe it's my memory card or the product itself. My husband really likes the idea of it but this one just did not do it for him. He wants a better quality picture and obviously since this one is not working he wants one that actually works.
Pilot Dash Cam HD Portable DVR with 2.5 LCD Screen CL-3000WK This is an inexpensive "techy toy" that has many possible uses. In the box there is everything you need to get started. 1080p camera Suction mount DVR camera with Flip Down Screen USB charger and car charger 4GB microSD Lithium Ion Flat Battery Dimensions: (L x W x H): 5.7 x 3.5 x 4.5 Received the HD Portable DVR with 2.5 LCD Screen and was anxious to learn about the device. I could see the multitude of uses for the LCD DVR. Not only could it be used in the car, but also for a inexpensive DVR-web cam to make your own videos where you are the host/star in the "how to do videos." The DVR is plastic. The suction cup held well to glass. Good sized flip down screen to view what you have recorded. This model supports up to a 32GB SD/MMC card. The display screen swivels 170 degrees. Separate power and record button. Options to loop record, Motion Detection, Microphone, Date and Time stamp, also DST option. Uses a 2.0 USB so decent transfer speed when used with like USB or transfer cable devices. The DVR would not charge out of the box. USB'd into 3 different laptops just to be sure. Eventually looked though my old cell phone plugs and found one with the same amps. Used that with the USB and the DVR battery then charged. Upon powering up the HD Portable DVR with 2.5 LCD Screen, set up the options as directed by the manual. Set to motion record and the DVR screen had a bunch of lines in the pictures. Informed the Spark Reviewer Team know that the DVR may be defected and sent screen shots of the issue. They in turn contacted Pilot. The Pilot manufacturer was amazing and sent out replacement and asked for the defective DVR to be sent back. Well I did receive the replacement very quickly. Mailed the defective DVR back - sadly with both batteries, so I could not test the replacement. I did email the manufacturer to let them know of my error but did not hear back from them as of this point. At this point I am out of time and must write a review. Not having a working DVR in the beginning is what I sadly am going to have to base this review on. Sadly overall my error in sending back the battery needed to test the DVR by accident - I cannot now say if this is a good device or not.
