This is the best frozen squash on the market. The taste is superb. We've tred several other brands when this was out of stock and no comparison. Last night we tried a steam-in-bag brand and there was a nasty "chemical" taste to the squash. I threw mine away. Stock more Birds Eye, please!
For whatever bizarre reason this staple of our American culture was discontinued! Other types of butternut squash don't cut it, and the "new" frozen section items of frozen cubed butternut sqaush do NOT stay good in the freezer for long. Tonight, I accomplished a very similar result to the taste of this. Take that awful pieces of cubed butternut invention
Very sad news - after not being to find this anymore anywhere, I wrote to the company to ask them about availability. They no longer make the frozen cooked winter squash. The reason given was not enough consumer interest to continue production. Terrible news.
Not available any longer!!! What a Huge disappointment! No frozen Birdseye Cooked Winter Squash or Walmart brand Winter Squash! Tried “steamed bagged/cubed butternut squash and other imposters - terrible- we always enjoyed the Birdseye boxed type Winter Squash for Thanksgiving Dinner.
This winter squash, over years and years, has been consistently delicious. Without having to bake a fresh winter squash, peel it, remove seeds, mash it, you can just heat it up in the microwave or in a pan on the stove. Even when you buy butternut squash fresh I find it is not consistently good. And the cubed bagged organic varieties taste like water. Birds Eye knows how to do this. It helps you add a deep orange vitamin rich sweet and delicious vegetable to your family's diet. It is getting VERY hard to find it in the grocery store and I don't know why!
I LOVE Birdseye Frozen Squash!! We used to buy several boxes per week in WalMart in Dry Ridge, Kentucky as that is our nearest store. (40 miles away...but still the nearest as we are in Owen County, KY. THE PROBLEM IS THIS!!! THEY NO LONGER ARE CARRYING IT!! I would BUY it from Birdseye by the case, but it must be shipped refrigerated. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW I CAN GET WALMART TO CARRY THIS SQUASH AGAIN!! Everyone in our area WANTS this product, and I notice it ALWAYS sold very fast.
When I was younger this was the only vegetable I would eat without a fuss. My aunt used to make it for me whenever I was at her house for a family meal. I still love it I can eat the whole thing in one sitting especially when a little bit of brown sugar is added. I highly recommend it for parents of picky eaters.
I love this squash and at 12:15 am in the morning I have to make a point to get some in the very near future (probably tomorrow). A little butter and pepper and I can eat two packages at a time. It's good stuff and would recommend it to everyone that loves squash.
This squash is pretty good and has good flavor. It's not as good as just regular squash. You can tell it's frozen. I'm sure it is healthy but I would just get the natural one. I probably won't recommend this to others unless you were just looking for a quick meal and needed a few things of squash really quick and didn't feel like getting the uncooked one
The original brick with 11g of carbs per 1/2 cup is no longer sold. This was a classic we all grew up with and was approved for epileptic kids on a prescribed ketogenic diet. It has been replaced by Southland that has 17g carbs per 1/2 cup serving and is not as good. Birds Eye screwed up on this one.
