I started smoking meats in 1991. I have had 4 Bullet Smokers one electric, one charcoal, and two propane, three electric pit Smokers and three big chiefs (I use these for fish and my from scratch bacon). I bought this Series 3 Pit Boss three years ago. It has never failed to reack any temp I need, or any smoke level I need. I have smokes pork butt, turkey breasts and whole turkies, chicken whole and cut up, and multiple prime ribs. I am never, ever, disappointed! It doesn't even matter what kind of chips I use! It does an outstanding job EVERY TIME!
I just received it and assembled it with my 8year old daughter. Such a wonderful birthday gift to myself. So there will be some meat smoking on the 25th!! The assembly was easy as well with the follow along instructions. It's such a gorgeous smoker and very sturdy. I am very very happy with my purchase. Can't wait to order the cover and the hear resistant grill mat. I am super excited to get off work today so I can do a test run on my ribs! Have my brisket and hot links ready!!! Thanks Pit Boss for making such amazing products! So far so good and I will recommend in advance !
I purchased a Pitt Boss Series 3 Electric Smoker and it worked great for a while but Customer Service was very kind and helpful with remedying the problem quickly. I has since received the Red Rock Series 2 gas Smoker. Both were easy to assemble (good instructions) and the Red Rock works great. The gas allows me to take it camping. Holds temperature well once you learn the settings.
The quality of this is good. The assembly is lengthy but not difficult. The directions said to burn it in at 350,but it never got above 300. I called their help line, and they agreed that 300 was about it. Our first attempt was a failure as I set the temperature too low based on what I read in the directions. I then did a little reading on the interet. Our second attempt was successful and tasted great (pork butt). After a bit of consternation, I am happy with the purchase.
It's premature for a real review. Smoker was delivered early and in good condition. It took about 3 hours to put together. Haven't tried it though yet, it's been cold in the Northeast.
I really like this smoker and it ease of use. Took of a star because I do not think it would ever reach temps above 300 degrees. It takes a while heating up to 225 - 250.l and when I did the initial burn-off, it never got near 300. For me, I do not think it will be an issue but I would think the capability should be there if it is going claim it can do so. But for low and slow cooks, I really like this thing.
Love our new smoker. Love the legs, the digital interface, the racks, the look, the price, the pull-out wood chip tray, the way it works… We're pleased with everything about it except a few tiny nits, as follows: While unpacking, the packing tape on the door took off the paint (we bought high heat paint and did an ugly touch up). Door leaked a little smoke on the top left corner (hubby modified hinges to tighten it up). The temperature setting only goes up to 350 degrees and the actual temperature won't get above 320 degrees. So, they need to fix the burnout instructions and the claims to reach 400 degrees. I don't need the high temps just get real with your customers. I would buy this same smoker again but I'd use a hair dryer on the packing tape to soften up the glue.
Would not work out of the box. Bad control panel. Called listed number and received excellent care and a new control panel shipped immediately. Now working as advertised and seems to do everything I need. Has better insulation than I expected. Works at 30 degrees.
The control panel is located at the bottom of the box in there it should be at the top so that you don't have to bend down in front of the door, but, we really enjoyed the four racks and the ability to adjust them. In comparison to similar smokers, the smoker was the best value for the size, we would like to have an easier way to load in more chips during the cooking process for a more smoky flavor
First time I used it broke customer service was terrible they wanted me to fix it ! Not happy now I have to wheel it into Walmart for a return! Also waisted 20 lbs if pork I could not smoke !
