This unit was $30 cheaper at Walmart than on eBay. No defects or flaws. Some minor assembly is required. Shipping was faster than expected. Has a great weather-proof seal, lots of room. The latching system leaves a little to be desired, but overall a great storage box.
For the price, easily the best value to be had. People complain about the closure straps being too long, (they are), the hinge rod not lining up perfectly, the fact that it has to be assembled, the foam tape not sticking, etc. I'm not sure if Kolpin boxes are perfect but they are about twice as much money, so I don't mind putting in 22 screws and coercing the hinge rod in the brackets. My tape stuck fine, 2 different times I've bought this box, and it does seal up pretty dust proof and rain proof. Just use alcohol to clean the surface, it works great. The straps are an easy fix, unclamp the ends and make the loop bigger, and I'm not even an engineer. They even give you fairly high quality hardware, (use the ubolts unless you take it off every day for some reason.) If I ever have to buy another box this will be the one. Oh Yeah - and it got here a day earlier than promised date.
I purchased this box for a Honda Rubicon. The fit is good. Assembly was easy and it rides rock solid the way I have it set up with a piece of 1/4" rubber pad cut out to the shape of the box bottom and placed between box and rack. Is also use bungee cords for mounting. The Rubicon seat can not be removed unless the box is removed. This is another reaon why bungees are the best option for mounting.
The box is great but the bunje closures are kind of strange and hard to understand as to how they are supposed to work.I like all but the closures
After reading all the reviews I was a little skeptical to purchase this pack but it looked like exactly what I was looking for. That being said I'm glad that I went with it. Very roomy, didn't have the issues that everyone else seemed to have with putting the cover on, straps and such. My cover went on smoothly with no extra help. I will say that the latches for it are strange but seemed to work fine. Only issue that I saw was the rubber gasket to make it water proof really could be better and I will look at some other way to water proof(just doesn't stick well). Overall I was very pleased with it and I would purchase it again if I would ever need to.
I was surprised by the fact that this item required assembly and it took me about an hour to do it. It looks sturdy and well-made but I have not used it on my ATV yet. I like the strong looking full-length hinge. I read from other review that the mounting bolts rust. I hope this doesn't happen for me as I hate rusty bolts. The bungee latches are overly complicated and hard to get right. They should really use another type of latch on this box. I like that it has two mounting options, quick straps and U-bolts that require drilling. I will be using the U-bolts and think it should also come with a small tube of silicone to seal the bolt holes as I plan to do.
Putting this unit together required another set of hands to get the hinges to line up! Not the easiest thing to put together!
had to assemble first. the box was ok. I wasn't able to mount it on my polaris sportsman 450. it was just a very basic box, not very attractive. the latches were terrible! the loops were too long to mount per the instructions. I think if you want an inexpensive cargo box it is fine but I thought it looked cheesy.
This trunk can be a beast to assemble. No less than 18 nuts and bolts, one long roll of foam weather stripping, a long metal rod that acts as if three hinges is one too many during assembly. Finally, there are the closure fasteners. Ugly, complicated and difficult to install. At the end of the day (actually about 45 minutes) the system works and you end up with a strong, tuff trunk that has a couple extra nice optional surprises.
Read several reviews, watched videos, I don't know if all those people worked for Plano that like it so much but I could have bought a heavy duty plastic box and strapped it to my rack for half the price and had the same set up. I had to re-drill one hinge. The straps that hold the lid down will not tighten up because the bottom loops are made too big. It is just really cheap! It is overpriced at $100. I always say "You get what you pay for" Oh, BTW the ammo box they make does fit nice in the side or it.
