I have had the RS800CX for about 7 months and have used it exclusively for running with the foot pod which works great. The GPS adds the ability to do multi sport and track speed, distance and location. Using the GPS with the foot pod is also cool to map runs which you can then share via google maps or import into mapmyrun.com The price of this was only $98 which was about $50 less than amazon. Great value and addition to the RS800CX
I recently got this unit to go with my Polar RS800 Heart Rate Monitor which I got a few years ago. The G3 version of the Polar GPS sensor apparently uses improved technology and sensitivity over their previous GPS Sensor. The GPS sensor provides a significant improvement in speed and distance measurements, over the Polar stride sensors, provided that its receiver can “see” enough satellites. One of the sensor's LEDs flashes green when this is the case. The manual that comes with the GPS sensor tells you how to get it powered up and know that it is tracking them OK. Per the instructions, be sure to turn the GPS sensor OFF when you are done, as battery life is only about 10 hours. Although my RS800 manual does not mention the GPS Sensor, the information on "teaching" the monitor to talk to Polar "S sensors" worked with no trouble. Once started, the Polar RS800 provides a choice of data display formats that can show pace, speed, distance, heart rate, etc, including a really neat graphic showing HR verses distance / time. And all of this, plus altitude info, can be downloaded via the RS800's IrDA interface to your computer and displayed using the software that comes with the HR monitor. One thing though. The booklet that comes with the GPS sensor recommends that the sensor be worn on the same arm as the HR monitor. It turns out that this is crucial. When I failed to do that, the downloaded speed/ pace data had numerous skips and jumps making it very difficult to read accurately.
