Polk Audio Legend L100 - speakers
Key Features and Benefits: Pinnacle ring radiator tweeter 40 plus years of tweeter innovation, design and prototyping has led to the development of the 1" high definition Pinnacle ring radiator tweeter. Developed for the Legend Series, it delivers ultra-clear, crisp highs without unwanted coloration or distortions. 5.25" turbine cone Polk developed the Turbine cone specifically for the Legend series to ensure the natural reproduction of the mid-range, the frequencies your ears are so sensitive to. The Turbine cone combines Polk's proprietary foam core and the molded Turbine geometry which dramatically increases stiffness and damping, without adding mass, resulting in a smooth, detailed mid-range and effortless bass - hear every detail. Better bass by design Traditional bass ports make noise (chuff) and mask the low frequency bass notes you want to hear. The enhanced Power Port design smoothly transitions air flow from the speaker into your listening area for louder, cleaner bass while minimizing turbulence, distortion, and port noise. Polk refined their current Power Port technology specifically for the Legend series by fine-tuning the geometry of the port flare. Hear and feel the difference; Polk Enhanced Power Port produces less port noise and more powerful clean bass than traditionally ported loudspeakers. Hi-Resolution certified Your sound is only as good as your source. With High-Resolution certification, the Polk Legend L100 delivers clear and detailed high-end response. Female vocals are smooth and detailed without coloration. Plus, a minimum support of 40kHz perfectly reproduces the latest high resolution audio files with improved audio extension.

In my room and system the Legend L100 are really good. Using them with the Marantz PM7000N with the SMSL DO200 DAC. Source is Amazon Music HD via LDAC Bluetooth from an Android phone. My room is 13x14 and do not need a sub. I have had many bookshelf speaker sets in for audition such as Elac UBR62, Elac Carina, Def. Tech. D11, Wharfedale EVO 4.2, Polk R200, and Martin Logan 35XTi. These L100's are top notch and beat most of what I've auditioned. The ML 35XTi are really good as well and it is truly a toss up. The L100 beat the R200 handily in my set up… if you are curious. Nice job Polk!
I used to have Polk LSi9s - I thought they were the most amazing speakers and just plain exceptional. I purchased the R100s and even though I liked their sound I regretted not purchasing the L100s. Eventually, I returned the R100s and purchased the L100s. They may have the same drivers but the cabinets on the L100s are truly exceptional. I am not sure about the crossovers - in any event, they deserve Polk's high end category and I could not be happier. Please don't be put off by some of the reviews that claim they are power hungry. I am using a Marantz PM6007 integrated amplifier which outputs 60 watts into 4ohms along with a subwoofer (Martin Logan) in a small den. The Marantz has plenty of power for the L100s in my room. Your mileage may vary. In any event, the Polk L100s are superb - you will not be disappointed.
The L100 is by far the best speaker I've owned. I purchased a Rotel A12 just over a year ago and upgraded from S20 to the L100 in November. Best combo I can say.
Excellent. They look and sound amazing. I'm running them as surrounds so not the most challenging role but will likely buy another pair
I got a super deal on a used pair and after some break in time these little puppies recreate music and soundstage like no other speakers I've owned. I've owned a lot - Magnepan x4 models, Thiel, Spica, KEF, Acoustat, and these are the best - bar none. I can't believe the bass/mid bass; for most of my listening I keep the sub off. I'm driving them with a Topping LA90 (excellent in its own right). I've placed them on spikes on spiked Target, sand filled, stands the weigh about 45lbs each. Bottom line it these suckers get my toes taping.
The smallest of the legend series is able to easily sound as good as any of its legend siblings. Highly resolving with a wide soundstage. These are forward sounding which makes them sound great with lively recordings. They are revealing so any bad recordings or mediocre equipment will sound as such. They will reward you handsomely with good recordings and decent power. I have a tube integrated amplifier (Rouge Audio Cronus Magnum 3) servicing them with excellent results.
In my opinion and in my system: Treble is absolutely amazing! That tweeter is a keeper. I have no complaints about what it does. Midrange in my system with all tone controls flat is a bit nasely. Some kind of mid range thing going on but with some adjustment of the tone controls I've got that settled. Bass is good - no boomyness at all. Overall a nice transition from tweeter to midrange to bass. Imaging is very good. Fit and finish is also very good. The input terminals are very good quality and the magnetic covers are an excellent feature. 4 out of 5 stars is because on my system I feel there is something going on in the midrange. That could be just my system but... I can't give it 5 stars.
