We do a LOT of camping with Boy Scouts and the Power Smart PS90 Electric Log Splitter is a GREAT help! We are able to take wood ready to use in the campfires whenever we camp. My husband also uses this to split the wood for our chimenea. The log Splitter was very easy to set up. He only had to attach the front axel and wheels. The instructions were clear and concise. The splitter has a great safety feature in that it takes both hands to operate. If one either hand releases the button or lever, the splitter stops completely. You can control the speed of the hydraulic ram with the lever in the back. I suggest depressing the lever only half way, at least until you are comfortable using this devise. While the ram was not fast, it did pop the wood up off the splitter. Definitely do not stand near the front of the device!:). It takes about 10 secs from start to split wood. You can split wood up to 21” long and 10” in diameter. Great product! My husband absolutely loves using this log splitter. LOL. Something he never knew he needed......but now would not be without.

Power Smart PS90 6 Ton 15 Amp Electric Log Splitter When I received this splitter via FedEx, I was surprised at how small the overall size of it is; I'll give the approximate measurements! It's approximately 19 inches at its highest point and 14 inches wide and roughly 44 inches long! For it's size this splitter performs amazingly well, again I was shocked at how quickly it would split logs and we even used it on some scrap 2”x4” pine lumber for kindling we use when we go camping on the dessert. It splits like no other and it holds its power and more often than not we actually didn't even have to cycle it fully before the log was split completely. I noticed some really good design signs on this splitter as well. The welds on the splitting wedge look like they were hand welded; they are robust and look extremely solid. The motor has a high-grade cast aluminum casing which disperses heat like no other to ensure it doesn't overheat. They use this same cast aluminum in computers to disperse the high heat from processor chips etc. So just seeing the little things like I mentioned gives me the impression they really thought out the design well. I believe if this splitter is used like it's recommended that I can easily last 3-5 years of really good use. If you are a professional wood cutter and do 100's of cords etc. I wouldn't recommend this for that. But if the 10” recommendation is followed on the size of the logs and it's not abused I could readily see it being used for up to 10 cords a year for several years; “again this is just my opinion” it may do tons more. I did see one hazard on this splitter and that's the splitting wedge; because this is such a low-profile splitter if anyone were to trip or fall onto the splitting wedge itself when its not in use, its going to ruin their day or even their life. We made a homemade guard to put over it when not in use to hopefully prevent this from happening! I'm hoping the company will consider putting a guard on it in the future designs of the splitter. One last thing I'll mention is the low profile of the splitter; its way to low for practical use. I looked around at how others were using it and we decided to use out of our pickup bed as it raises it to almost the perfect height; and the weight of the splitter is only 104 lbs. which makes it easy to move around. I'm intending on building a cheap wood stand that will be 24” high and I believe that will work well. Overall: This splitter works great and is built well! I would absolutely recommend this to my friends or anyone that needs one!
I received this item free to write a review. I was a little wary at first when I received this because I've never had a tool this large and was a bit worried of what I would need to do to put it together. I was pleasantly surprised to find out when I received it that the only thing I needed to do to put it together was take it out of the box and put the wheels on! It comes with a rod and 2 wheels that are easily attached. I also didn't realize that it uses hydraulic fluid. On the opposite side of the controls is a built in canister that holds your hydraulic fluid. This should be checked periodically as you split your wood because it can't work without it. So it took about 5 minutes to put on the wheels and then I plugged it in and turned it on! I had wheel barrow sized logs already cut into pieces so they just needed to be split for firewood. I took a picture of the logs in the wheel barrow so you can get an estimate of what size logs this will cut. This splitter is awesome! You just place the log on and hit start! It moves the log for you so you don't have to worry about accidentally cutting yourself while you do this. It pushes it over the edge after it passes through the metal divider that splits the log after it's cut. No more having to buy firewood already split! This splitter is easy to use, it's very easy to move around with the wheels and it's safe! I highly recommend this item.

The Power Smart PS90 6 Ton 15 Amp Electric Log Splitter was selected through the Wal Mart Spark Reviewer Program in exchange for my honest opinion about the product. The log splitter's 5-Ton of RAM force can split logs up to 21-inch L and 10 inches in diameter. With a 22-second cycle time, the log splitter quickly resets to cut another log. Since this is electric one should confirm using this won't trigger the breaker or circuit wherever this is being used. In addition to that, before using, you need to make sure you purchase a heavy-duty extension card. Setting this up was very easy. Product is not all that big. However, storing this item could be an issue due to its shape. When using, I would recommend you wear protective eyewear. With this item, you will need some hydraulic fluid. I had no idea what this was, nor did I know what it was used for. However, this needs to be check periodically. hydraulic fluid is the medium by which power is transferred in hydraulic machinery. Common hydraulic fluids are based on mineral oil or water. You will need this to use this product. The fluid can be purchased at Wal Mart, Lowe's, Home Depo etc.
Power Smart PS90 6 Ton 15 Amp Electric Log Splitter The Power Smart PS90 log splitter is designed to help people split small size logs for burning. It is advertised to split logs up to 10” in diameter and 21” in length. It has a 22 second cycle time. This is an economy electric log splitter. It plugs into a 120 VAC outlet and consumes up to 15 amps. It arrives almost fully assembled. You only have to put on the wheel assembly. I was skeptical about this small unit, but it worked like a champ! You press the ‘on' button after putting the log onto the splitter. You then push the cycle handle down. I used a 12” piece of 4” x 4” scrap pressure treated wood. The two photos show the before and after split. The two pieces of wood lie exactly where they landed after being split! This little unit packs quite a punch! The wood was easily split. I recommend the Power Smart PS90 log splitter and give it **** (4) stars.
This splitter is a little work horse. The splitter is very heavy and it takes two people to pick it up at 104 pounds. First off this is a product that should not be shipped in the mail. The box it came in was badly damaged and the styrofoam packaging was all smashed, the styrofoam is way to thin to protect this splitter. When the splitter arrived there was a bolt broken off the handle frame that needs to be replaced, one of the leg protectors is damaged and the operation handle knob is broken. Assembly of the product is only the wheel assembly and it only takes a few minutes. The instructions are easy to follow and understand. A lot of safety precautions are listed and should be followed. The splitter is small and very close to the ground, hard on the back using it for a while. It has a six ton splitting force. Log capacity of 21 inches long and 10 inches in diameter. It holds 2.9 quarts of AW32 hydraulic fluid. After continued use, I believe when the hydraulic fluid heats up, it wants to take a break and you lose splitting force. Let it cool down and you're ready for action again. I have split pine, cedar and some oak with no problems. I have only split wood in 16 inch length with various diameters.
The 6 ton 120V electric log splitter is very well built. It has solid nice 3 pass welds on the blade. The machine is easy to move around within the constraints of your power source as it isn't too heavy. The recommended log diameter is under 10 inches and it easily split everything I put in it. We actually tested logs that wouldn't split by hand due to having knots in them and they split quick and easy. My complaints are how short or low to the ground it is. You either have to use it while kneeling on the ground or put it on an elevated work surface which given the nature of the work, isn't exactly feasible. I understand the need behind the two handed operation for safety reasons however I don't like that feature because it doesn't allow you to keep your body away while logs are being split. I would recommend it overall for any light duty applications. It definitely beats chopping it all by hand.
I received this Powersmart Log Splitter from the Spark Reviewer Program. We used this log splitter on wild cherry wood. It was less than 10'' in diameter. And about 20'' in length. It took aprox 1.5-2 mins long to make 3 cuts, which was the size we needed to use in the heating stove. For this project we employed the help of a 74 yr old outdoorsman who has split logs his entire life! He was able to operate this machine by himself without help. He thought it was a great tool to use, and was very happy with this particular brand log splitter.
sturdy construction, that's the extent of its virtues. box was a little banged up and there was a big oil spot on one end, but otherwise no apparent damage. set-up was simple: added wheels, checked the hydraulic fluid level, opened the hydraulic breather valve and plugged into a dedicated 20A circuit. followed the operating instructions: press the power button and engage the ram lever; motor spins, ram moves, but it doesn't develop enough force to split anything bigger than a 1" piece of dried kindling. I tried all sizes of timber but it split virtually nothing bigger than my already-small kindling. thank goodness for Wal*Mart's super-easy return processes.
