Not only that I love the reverse camera and monitor, my loved it too. She still can't believe that she could actually see what's behind her car when she's backing up. It's way much better than those sensors.
I wasn't sure at first if it was what I wanted, but I got it hooked up and it works Great! You can see so much more than you could before in you rear view mirror. I would recommend this to everyone!
I bought this product for my father as a birthday gift. It took him 3 hrs with the help of my uncle to install the item in his vehicle. There was about three sentences on how to hook the product up, which was not helpful at all. Once they hooked the item up he had to go to Radio Shack and buy a more reliable cord to hook up the product inside the truck. He did say that the picture was very clear and he loves the product. I would be nice to have had step by step instructions with the product that included pictures. I know if you Wal-Mart would try to hook this item up themselves they would not sell it in their store until more instruction were avaiable.
I got this camera after watching dozens of reviews and DIY installs on YouTube so I felt pretty confident to install it myself. I tried to install this on my Camry, but I couldn't figure out how to use the quick splices to draw power from the rear lights or how the heck to hardwire it to the fuse box so I had a professional finish the install which cost about $60. The monitor works fine but the camera quality is quite poor, but it definitely gets the job done (I think I'm just used to HD everything!) The “mirror” definitely takes some getting used to. It is not very reflective; it puts a blue haze over everything. One major problem, the mirror does not work at night. When the headlights from the car behind you hit the replacement mirror all it shows is the monitor behind the glass. You'll need to get used to using your side mirrors a lot more. Weighing the pros and cons I would take this system! It will help make parallel parking, backing up in crowded parking lots or just backing out of your driveway much easier!
Large clear picture view. Backup mirror is like looking thru a dimmed mirror. Wire length was just barely long enough for my 2010 F150 ext cab. Has secondary hookup for another camera. Buttons work good sensitive to touch. Pigtail plug in bad spot ends up being jammed in to headliner to try and hide. Needs a couple more feet on video wire.
Fairly simple to install. The power and ground wires are VERY small and fragile, and seem to have been the cheapest wires available to use...Be extra careful with these wires or they break really easily. Re-wiring is not an option due to the internal wiring of the small wires. Overall, a value for the money as long as you don't get in a hurry during install. Night vision isn't the best, but it does show a little, so it is better than nothing at all. I have used other security cameras for the home in the past, and this one for vehicles has very good Daytime view, but could use more IR lenses for night time. Had to rob a car power adapter from another product to use in the car lighter outlet...{does not come whith one} It states not to wire directly to direct constant power, you will need to be able to turn all power off when not in use. I hooked mine to be on all the time..not just while backing up, and placed screen on dash instead of over rearview mirror. Does not hold onto rearview strong enough in my opinion, and not a clear rearview when screen is off. I also have OnStar on my rearview, so it may just be the angle of that style of rearview that makes it seem looser than I'm comfortable with..Don't want a broken monitor from falling.
If the purchaser will throw away the "instructions" he will have a lot better chance of installing the camera. Just remember, the display needs power and the camera needs power. The display can get its power from the battery, the camera gets it power from the backup lights.
This was the second unit. The first one was defective and had to be returned after being fully installed in a new vehicle. Pyle's technical support staff was responsive and honest about the item being defective based on the symptoms however once they found out I was a private individual not a distributor /installer, I was passed onto their warranty department which was a phone recording. I left my information including a call back number twice. They still have not returned my call. Thanks for Wal-Mart's return policy I was able to return the defective unit after I had to uninstall all the wiring. I made the mistake of ordering the same unit a second time. it works but the quality is fair to say the least.
Shipping was free and the box arrived early. After tearing my truck apart to install the PLCM7200 and putting the truck back together ..... it didn't work. Nothing. Nada. Depression set in. I read the useless instructions over and over to see if I made some mistake but couldn't find anything. I scoured the internet and found I wasn't alone. Wish I'd done that before I went to the trouble of installing it .... test first then install. Others had IR LEDs that didn't work but I couldn't verify if mine did. I returned it to WalMart and reordered because the unit has great possibilities ..... if it works. I'm sure I'll get another crack at another review. Stay tuned.
This system was bad all around. I was trying to mount it on an SUV and I could not get the camera to aim down to see more than about a foot either side from the center of the vehicle so you can't see what's really behind the vehicle. The screen is mirrored so it is supposed to clip on over the existing mirror but the reflection is cloudy and gets lots of glares. Seeing the camera through it was very dark and the image just washed out if I tried to raise the brightness. I will be returning this - it is not acceptable!
