I have a total of six zones, but complicated by an area of new grass in an area of old grass. They obviously need different watering times. I set two different times, and it has worked like a charm. The smart features, for example, delaying when it rains, are awesome. Very good product.
Was conflicted between the 3 and 3a. The 3 will allow future upgrades and has hyper local weather. Chose the 3a. It's great. Turns out I have hyper local weather -it's called a window. So when it rains enough at my house, I just open the app and skip the next cycle. Setup was super easy. I've had it a month and the machine is reliable and the interface is intuitive. Wouldn't trade the Rachio 3a for any other controller.
I found this item after some research on sprinkler controllers, the Hunter model I originally wanted ha more than doubled in price recently. Now I'm glad that happened, because this Rachio controller is really the best thing for my application. Installation and setup was extremely easy, the device connected immediately to my network. Love the detailed setup of the individual zones, which includes vegetation type, sprinkler head type, soil type, sun exposure, and slope. Plus you can add a photo of each zone. The app (iOS) is very intuitive and easy to set up and use, and the weather link and features are great. My first scheduled watering was cancelled automatically due to rain in the forecast (which was accurate), saving me hundreds of gallons of water.
Purchased for my 90 year mother's house. Now we can more effectively control watering schedule and not waste water. She would never be able to manage the system herself as she did not have a smart phone and goes not know how to program the system. However, we have had a very easy time with the programming.
We use the Rachio 3e as the controller for our garden and lawn irrigation system. There was an old controller in place when we bought the house but it is in location very difficult to access, which made manual operation and day skipping very challenging. The Rachio 3e solved all that thanks to its excellent app and wifi capability. Thus far, there's nothing we don't love about this unit.
We replaced our non-working controller to water our lawn in front and back of the house with multiple zones. The unit was programmed and working nicely. The installation was quite easy and the setup was straight forward - wirelessly with the internet connection. We are happy with the controller so far - no issue.
Working great so far! It's a little confusing, but I think I am getting the hang of it. The only thing I can't figure out is how to set up a non-scheduled run without having to re-enter the times for each zone. Maybe that's the only way to do it, but the instructions are vague…
During quarantine we decide to upgrade the look of our backyard. We added in a new garden and quite a bit of Sod. My older system was very hit or miss. 1 the location of the system was in the garage. I no longer need to fumble around the garage trying to get to the system with no airflow in 90+ heat. 2. The ability to do a quick run on the chosen zone from my phone to be sure our garden is getting plenty of water is so great.
We've lived in our house for six years. Brand new when we bought it, complete yard, sprinklers, and system. The system never worked as we'd wanted and try as we might, we were unable to reprogram it. Rachio was set up in minutes and we could very easily walk away and it would do exactly what we want, but it also has very fun features that are cool to tinker with too!
Easy to set up zones to enable operation. After that it gets more difficult. Controller app will not allow multiple start times for a schedule. You must manually recreate the schedule with a different name if you want to run it again at a different time. If you want to cycle and soak, you have almost zero control over exact cycle times and soak times- the controller assumes the user has no brain and takes over the setting of cycle and soak times. User must create three or four times as many schedules as are really needed in order to run duplicate schedules multiple times. Surely a controller manufacturer as sophisticated as Rachio claims to be can allow multiple start times for the same schedule. Orbit and a bunch of other people do it- why can't Rachio?
