I have a gel stove fireplace in our living room. It came with a log insert that I didn't love. It was nice but the gel cans just sat behind it and you could tell. I was hesitant to replace it because I got the stove very cheap and the inserts were double to triple what I paid for the stove. But for the realism I decided to go for it. Plus this was on sale by the time I decided to purchase it. That was a huge plus. It was pretty simple to assemble. Just a few minutes. With the way it is set up the gel cans sit in between and under the logs which creates a much more realisitc effect. I am happy I went for it. I see it as something that I will have long term so it was worth it. I would recommend this!
Directions for the base were a little tricky at first, but I easily figured it out quickly. Assembles in a snap and i was enjoying my fire in no time. I have recommended this to several ppl since.
I live in a 1895 Victorian house with a coal burning insert in the fireplace. Because of the ornate decorative effect, I did not want to remove the cast iron surround and summer cover. The fireplace was no longer able to be used for real fires without extensive removation, so I opted to try these logs. The inside measurement was 18 inches across the front and 12 inches across the back and roughly 11 inches deep. I ended up not using the grate that was included and just placed the logs around 2 cans of stern. The effect is simply amazing! It looks and sounds like a real wood-burning fire! If you have a wonderful, old house and want to bring your fireplace back to life, I would highly recommend these logs!
