Brother Customer Service cannot be beat! I had a problem stemming from 2 year ago when I had a heart attack. Was unable to just recently contact Brother and leave a comment! A very nice lady called me from Brother and happily discussed my issue and resolved to perfection. I will never buy other than Brother. One day may be able to buy the quilting one ..but even if I can't this one suits me perfect and I so appreciate my experience with them. I have an old one I've had for 25+ years and it still works never have I had a problem. This one in sure will be equally as good. It does a lot more and I'm excited to use it. Thank you Brother you are exceptional!
Easy to use and the speed control is awesome made free motion quilting easy
Ive had the 1850 for over a week and make 2 quilts of jelly roll types and a hand bag I feel this was worth while purchase Oh it helps to read book on how the stiiches are set But I do like the machine But watch how you pick it up you could throw it out the window very light It doe not move when sewing Im from the old cast iron school i dont think I went wrong on buying it
I was skepticle of trying a computerized sewing machine having always used heavy manual machines. However, I LOVE this machine! It is so easy to use! I love all the stitch options being right on it, and it is so easy to input the stitch type and size. I've used the monogramming a lot as well as the decorative stitches with ease. I also am surprised to like the push button sewing option, and find myself using it as often/more than the foot pedal. It is so lightweight yet stays in place during use. I got a generic universal sewing machine carrying case for it, which fits all the parts plus machine easily. I absolutely love the self-threading! The thread and bobbin also all load very easily. I could go on, but after 2yrs of use, I know that this machine was the right choice. My only issue is that it sometimes gets caught up over layered seems, but this may be resolved with simple needle size change.
I sew as a hobby, and have used this new machine now for about 50 hours of sewing, all of which required use of various stitches, both decorative and utility (but no embroidery), on small craft items such as doll clothes. I had been using a much older machine before, and had certain usage habits that wouldn't work on this new machine, but I found that as i became more familiar with the various feet(J,G,N), spool caps, needle sizes and types, thread tensions, bobbin winding specifics,as well as read and followed the manual usage guide closely for best results, that this made sewing narrow seams and very thin and fragile materials as well as thicker than average fabrics such as velvet easier and neater. So i am very safisfied now with the results in making a more professional-like result with a wider variety of fabric.
I had never learned to sew, but after watching hours and hours of YouTube videos I figured it out. Thankfully there are several videos specific to this model so I was able to learn quickly. This machine is simple enough for an absolute beginner but advanced enough to grow with my skills so I won't feel I need a new one after a year or so.
Very nice machine with many great features. My first machine where you can push the button and sew (without using the foot pedal). The wide table is a great thing to have too.
I love this machine! As a person who is relatively new to sewing (had some small project lessons as a kid), this has been incredibly user-friendly. It's taking my learner abuse and still ticking. Love that it's light enough to move around the house, as I have limited space, and the built in handle area makes that even easier! Bobbins have been super easy to wind and change out, and threading takes me no time at all. Would definitely recommend for beginner/intermediate level sewing. Buttonholes were a breeze with the foot and setting features!
I have 2 issues with this machine. The first is the lighting is very dim, even though all info boasts of a “super bright led light”. Secondly, the bobbin wonder winds a little wonky leaving some parts fatter than others. I took my machine in to a certified repair shop under warranty and afterwards going through the entirety machine, they also agree the lighting was dim, even with a new bulb and all new wiring. Other than these 2 issues, I really like this machine. I've used multiple feet and stitches without any problems. It's very light weight for moving or travel.
I have owned this machine for 4 years. It is a workhorse sewing machine. However, brother needs to work harder on the bobbin filling function on thier machines. I own 4 brother sewing machines and I bought a bobbin filler because all of them fill wonky bobbins that end up fouling up the process of sewing. My only other issue with the HC1850 is machine quilting, it simply does not machine quilt as well as I had hoped it would, in fact I have spent hours ripping out ugly quilting stitches. As a sewing machine the HC1850 is a dream, as a quilting machine I am still trying to find the settings that make it quilt and not have skipped and loopy stitches.
