I am impressed!

I am very impressed with this unit, and let me tell you why... Over the years, I have tested my glucose due to being hypoglycemic on occasion. For this reason, the often expire before I have a chance to use them. On this model, the strips are individually sealed, and I like that. The price of strips, as we all know, is the real cost to consider. I've had other meters with every bell and whistle, and I swear the kitchen sink was in there as well. But the strips are very costly - a major consideration especially when I am paying for these out of my pocket. The test strips for this meter are quite affordable, which is a pleasant surprise. Then add the backlight, compact size and easy setup, and you have a nice basic meter that does what it is supposed to. I don't buy a meter to run the space shuttle, I just want it to test my glucose. This does it just fine! Highly recommended!

Great Value, Terrific Customer Service

I purchased this meter based upon a consumer review organization's recommendation. My first meter, unfortunately, had rather erratic readings back to back, so I contacted the customer service number listed. They were very helpful, courteous, and overnight shipped both a replacement meter and a postage paid return envelope. My replacement meter was spot-on with another meter of mine. While not loaded with a bunch of features, the display is large, the meter is easy to use and consistent. This meter and it's customer service get high marks from me for both quality and value.

A Lovely, Inexpensive Little Tool

*What I learned about getting accurate readings, skip to the last paragraph. I am very into taking responsibility and initiative with maintaining my health, rather than leaving it in the hands of doctors I only see once every few months. After counting my glycemic load for several weeks and seeing decent results, I decided to really go for it and buy a meter. This product was recommended by a nurse. I believe this meter to be accurate because I have physical symptoms (headache, migraine, ear fluid buildup/infection, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, thirst, sour taste in my mouth, frequent urination and itchiness) which start off mild when my sugar is a little high and become more severe as it increases - the readings have, so far, been spot on with my symptoms. I am working on getting my blood sugar into a healthy range which will keep me symptom free. *I did have some inconsistent readings. A few times, I had readings with a range of about 20 pts within a minute or two. My 8yr old son finally figured out what I was doing wrong - I was holding the strip to my finger after the countdown started, overfilling the strip with my blood (which I thought was impossible, but apparently is not). When the reading was suspiciously low, it was because my blood drop was too small. The machine will still beep when the blood reaches the testing material regardless, so, have a nice juicy drop of blood for it and pull it away the second it beeps and the countdown begins. Doing this, I have not seen fluctuations of more than 2 points.

The Most Reliable Meter

I needed a meter that was reliable as I check my blood sugar several times a day. I had been using a 'freeby' meter from a local drugstore. Everyone told me the only good one is ReliOn. Now I have it, and I feel safe reading my results!!!

A Good Meter

This meter is easy to use. The strips are not easy to access, it would be easier if they came in a tube or small box. Peeling the foil is a challenge to one with short fingernails. Over all the meter is working well although I suspect the readings are a bit low while still in acceptable range.

My One Touch strips were getting too expensive so I'm trying this Ultima meter out. Compared to One Touch readings, the Ultima's results are on the low side by 10-20% when readings are above 100 and about 10% high when below 100. This is good enough for my needs and the cost is much, much less than One Touch. Meter is just as simple to use. A good value.

The least expensive strips - easy to use.

This is my third meter. I was looking for the least expensive strips because I wanted to test more often. I have tested this meter against my TrueStyle Lite, and they are usually only a few points apart. This meter is easy to use, give seven day averages, etc. I will stick with this one from now on, I see no reason to pay almost double for strips for other meters.

Well as far as I know I am not a diabetic. I bought this yesterday to test where my blood sugar is to see if some minor symptoms could possibly be diabetes. I read the manual. And also the company website. I also bought the 20 pc test strips that goes along with this meter. I calibrated it according to instruction manual with a lot number. And decided to test myself. First result 42. Couple minutes later tried again 100. Ate a meal and waited two hours and did a test. 52, a minute later 61. Too me those are way off numbers and is inaccurate. If my blood sugar was really that low I would be ill or having some serious symptoms. I do not trust this meter and have put it away not to be used again.
