Know what you're getting, and you'll be fine.

Sometimes when people buy a prepaid phone, they forget that these are "unsubsidized" phones - meaning, a carrier is not paying for most of it and giving it to you at a discount in return for a two year contract. These phones are instead built down to a price by the makers, for sale to non-contract services. As a result, you should not expect the same build quality, performance, and features as you would get from higher-end smart phones or an iPhone. That being said, the LG900 does a fairly good job for the price. It averages $39.00 but can be found on sale even cheaper at times. It's important to remember that while on the outside it might LOOK like a Blackberry to some, it is NOT a Blackberry - nor is it even a smart phone. The screen is lower resolution, but it does have a pretty decent keyboard on it, and while the camera is a lower 2 megapixels in resolution with no flash, it does do a pretty good job of photos, too (make note the video feature is a laughable 176-something pixels, if that). There is no Wifi, and it's not a 3G phone - web access is painfully slow, and honestly, almost not usable. This should for the most part be considered a "talk and text only" phone. You can assign shortcuts around the wheel control to your favorite functions, and there is a speakerphone built-in (not very loud), but note, there are no voice controls for dialing or anything else. AT&T is the carrier that this phone piggybacks on. If you have AT&T services in your area, it will most likely work there. The inner antennae is "ok" - I've seen better reception on phones, but worse, too. Indoors in my particular area I average 2 bars with this phone, while when we tested it, an iPhone averaged 3 bars and someone's basic phone averaged 3-4. I have dropped a couple of calls when walking through the house on the LG900 - but it's not that common. Voice quality is only soso, with a digital-garble quality in the earpiece that is unfortunately common through AT&T with phones that aren't perfect with their speakers. Net10 has a variety of plans, and in some cases works out to be among the best prepaid services for people who just don't live on their phones. For only $15 a month via autopay, you can get 200 units that can be used for voice, web surfing (slow!), or texting where it averages 1/3 of a minute per text sent/received, I believe. If you are a heavier user, they have a 750 minute plan for $25.00 a month, or unlimited for higher dollar amounts - even an unlimited that includes some foreign calls, now. Worth checking out. I'd recommend this phone for people who primarily just talk/text and might send an occasional picture message to someone. If you are heavy on web use, using Facebook/Twitter on your phone, etc., you will want to upgrade to a "real" smart phone model - just note that in all but one case at the time of this writing, Net10's smart phones use Sprint's primary towers, with no roaming (again, this one uses AT&T and CAN roam).
