I have looked (and purchased) other back seat organizers with trays, and these are by far the best. The tray is easy to fold down, and will hold a happy meal with no problem. (I would recommend putting a drink in a cup holder, but a juice box would probably work fine). The tray is semi-soft, so if you were driving with it open and got into an accident, I don't think it would cause any injuries. Some of the other products I've seen are made of hard plastic that I think could be dangerous in a crash. My boys (ages 5 and 8) love that they have a place for things, and I love that they can just fold up the tray when they're done and not have to worry about it getting in the way when people get in and out of the car. I'm not sure it would be sturdy enough to write on, but we haven't tried that yet. It also has many pockets for things like Kleenex, crayons, iPads, etc..., and will serve as a seat protector if you have young children who kick the seats. This has been a life-saver for me, as my kids are able to be more independent in the back seat, without making a mess!
When you see the name 'Rubbermaid', you generally get a quality product. This item is no exemption. Although it was just recently purchased, the material is of a grade A. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants something to last a long time.
looks neat, lotsa space
We bought 2 of these for an extended car trip for our 7 and 8 1/2 year old. They worked great! The trays folded down when we had moving breakfasts and lunches. Held items while played in their seats. Note- the tray is not sturdy enough to color or write on, but it holds we'll enough for electronics (like DVD players or iPads) There were enough pockets to nearly store items my children used to entertain themselves during a 2500+ mile trip.
This organizer really met our needs in our van. As a single Mom with an active 5-year-old, he needed something to keep him interested, easy to use and easy to see things he is trying to reach so I can focus on driving. We were both very glad to find this one with the fold-out table top. It is perfect for him to place a coloring book on.
I purchased this item for my children for a 16 hour drive. On the first day the latch broke off. However the velcro still allowed my kids to put the tray table back up. The tray table is sturdy. My kids were able to eat their meals on it without any problems. The drink holder was also convenient. There is lots of pocket space for storage. I would give it a 5 star if the latch was more secure. A good buy for long trips for kids.
I had high hopes for this because of other reviews. I was disappointed. The tab that keeps the tray up fell off after a week (much like other reviews) it's truly a design flaw as we weren't hard on it at all. The pockets on the bottom are not stiff enough to hold board books, they start bowing out terribly. Even the pen elastic failed, every time i put down the tray (or it fell down) the pens and pencils fell out. Totally dissatisfied with this product and glad i only bought one. Instead of four!
We bought 2 of these organizers for a trip. They were both broken before we even got home from our week long trip. The latch that holds the fold out piece broke on both! Ridiculous! I knew I should have looked at the reviews before purchasing :(
I purchased two of these for use in my SUV by my three granddaughters. The clasp for the fold down table on one of them ripped out in a week so I replaced the unit thinking it was either just a flaw or one of the kids was a bit too energetic. Now the other original one has ripped out, even after an instruction session on proper opening & closing. As for the replacement one, the straps holding it to the headrest ripped out. Three organizers, all in the trash.
I bought this product from Walmart thinking it would hold up since it's Rubbermaid brand. The top strap that secures around the head rest came apart less than a week after purchasing. Will buy one on Amazon instead. Very disappointed, expected more from Rubbermaid.
