This needle is perfect for large weight yarn, not for embroidery weight. Easy to use. You need a yarn threader which comes with the needle, however, order another set of them because they are flimsy, (as they are supposed to be).
The punch needle was fine for rug yarn, but I wanted one with a smaller diameter needle that would work for worsted yarn on finer weave cloth than would be needed for this punch. I could not tell the diameter of the needle until I got it, and was disappointed. The rug punch needle I purchased over 60 years ago had a much smaller diameter needle, but worked for both rug snd worsted yarns. I'm sorry I've misplaced it over the years. If you are looking for a large diameter needle that would work perhaps on burlap or the rug backing, this is a fine product.
