Me and my fiancé wanted barbacoa. I didn't want to try this meat based on the reviews but he said well why don't we just try it and see how it turns out. It tasted very good! The meat did have a lot more fat than meat but it was fine since it was able to feed a few of us. We would purchase it again
the last time I had bought these there was nothing but fat in the package! so I haven't bought them in a minute but I really wanted one and this time it actually came with meat.
I love that Rumba is offering beef cheeks but their cut is half meat and half fat and skin that needs to be trimmed. I bought 2 packages totaling 4.30 pound and more than half of that add to be trimmed and discarded.
I did not order this meat. I need soecific meats for my recipe but decided to rrt it anyway. Big mistake. While it is flavorful, it is VERY fatty and dense so it needs to cook long like a roast. Walmart did not issue a refund before i used it, so I looked up recipes to see how to prepare it. Paying $10 fo a bunch of fat is crazy, but also certain parts of this cut is like a bunch of currdled bubbles of fat and meat. Not good at all
cow cheek 8.62 is no substitution for beef roast. 14.58 They did not adjust the price ether i was asked about the substitution from the delivery driver?? but could not bring up the link that was sent. on my to Winn Djxie
Over half waste. The package shows them trimmed, and I always expect some waste from big stores, but this was ridiculous. It more than doubles the price once you trim them the way the package advertises.
I have never had beef cheeks before but I have seen it featured in a lot of recipes lately and thought I would give it a try. They cooked up great; I seared them and then 8 hours on low in a crockpot. But the prep was absolutely disgusting. First off, half of the cheeks were fat, at least half. While there should be some fat, the recipes I looked at (and even some reviews here) recommend to get cheeks at a butcher because they trim the fat. Then there were the blood clots. At first I thought that there were many pieces of shiny dark paper on the cheeks but when I tried to pull one off it became apparent to me that they were blood clots. A lot of dime to nickle sized clots. Some oblong shaped- imagine a "horse pill" sized blood clot. I will never buy this brand again, the prep work was nauseating. The cost does not justify a purchase. I would rather pay up to twice as much from a butcher who removes at least 70% of the fat and will remove all the blood clots.
I purchased a 3.5 pound package of beef cheeks and upon opening the package found that at least two thirds of the “meat” was unusable fat. If lucky I maybe got a pound of usable meat. I wrote to Rumba Meats to voice my complaint and they've chosen not to respond. I strongly suggest that you find another brand if you want the quality you are paying for.
I received a $2.00 package of beef neck bones. not at all as you described a replacement of beef cheek, which i would not habe wanted either. a considrtable price difference dont you think?
I had a recipe that I found that I wanted to try and was glad Walmart had beef cheeks. I had never bought them or had them before. They were nothing like was pictured. I expected to have to trim the fat, that was in the directions of the recipe, but I didn't expect half the package to be fat, grizzle, that tough skin you need to trim off, etc. I had bought 2 packages, but after opening and trimming, I realized that I needed another to feed my family and had to have it delivered quickly. It appears these people just slice it off the cow and then throw the whole mess into a package. I paid approx $30 for the three packages and had approx $12 worth of trash when done. All the meat left fit in the bottom of a 6 quart Dutch Oven with all but three pieces in chunks. This is a rip-off. Better off going to a butcher shop and paying more. You will come out ahead and probably have some left-overs.
