I prefer to always buy my seafood fresh but I was in a jam and decided to try these precooked mussels. I was pleasantly surprised at their size and color. They were big and that beautiful orange color you see in fresh mussels straight out of the ocean. I rinsed them in a colander prepared a sauce of olive oil, butter, garlic, shallots, saffron, white wine, seafood stock and parsley. My sauce took longer to prepare then heating the mussels in the sauce. I laddled bowls full of the delicious sauce and mussels served with lemon wedges and crusty bread. Every guest LOVED it. The mussels were the perfect texture and tasted so fresh. This is my new secret weapon for a quick meal that looks like you took hours to prepare. I'm So glad I took a chance on these! I highly recommend you do too! *Side Note- I'm very confused by many of the other reviews mentioning their mussels did not open when cooked. I'm not sure how this could be?? These are pre cooked frozen mussels. Their shells are already open exposing the mussel inside when you open the vacuum sealed bag. I had about 4 or 5 that did not open and were obviously not good from production and I just threw them out. But to say not worth it half the mussels didn't open or only 4 mussels out of 2 lbs opened is just bizarre these are not living fresh mussels??
I was pleasantly surprised, plump nice size mussels, every single one opened, not one dud! I opened one of the packs, washed under cold water, made a wine/garlic sauce w spinach, kind of like a pesto, then steamed mussels and sauce in my Cuisinart glass steamer for about 7 minutes. I put it over cooked zucchini noodles, topped w fresh parsley, came out very good! Pic is below, sans fresh parsley, forgot to add for pic, lots of good recipes online to switch it up. Would recommend, good price as well!
Ah, what a delightful culinary discovery! Sam's Choice Frozen Mussels, shipped to your home in a handy 2-pound pack, are the perfect ingredient for a spontaneous seafood feast. These bad boys, thawed and steamed to perfection, are a joy to the palate, offering the briny goodness of the ocean. Just the right size, not too big, not too small - they're just right! Plus, the ease of cooking straight from frozen makes them a must-have in my freezer. One minor hiccup is the occasional grittiness, but the overall flavor and convenience factor outweigh it
They were absolutely delicious 😋
the price wasn't bad at all tast good.
the ones that opened were very good. this bag would only feed 2 or 3 people because of the unopened ones. I would buy 1 bag per 2 people. Thankfully, they are a good price or I would have given only 2 stars.
No seasoning and at least 10% did not open despite being "fully cooked. Complete waste of money
So I bought these again giving Walmart a second chance, but they immediately smelled off and over half were cracked in one bag. (The shell was busted.) I obviously went ahead and cooked the few that looked okay. The smell never subsided, so I had to throw in trash. :( very disappointing because Walmart said well we can give you a refund if you bring them back. I don't know about you guys but we make one trip to Store a week, and I'm not keeping stinking seafood around that long.
No mussels were in the bags
Only 4 out of both bags opened!! ☹️😤
