I've used this paddle for whitewater runs and lake touring over an eight year period. Over a hundred runs in the last year with some class III and IV sections depending on flow rate after heavy rainfall. It will handle all the strength you can produce with a double arm stroke. Unless you're training for a medal it's paddle enough. For whitewater I drilled out the blade rivets, shortened its length and hot glued the blades back on. No problems and this allows for a custom pitch. I'm back on this site to order another one for an extra boat because of the value and quality. It does exactly what I need.
This is a 7' kayak paddle. It works very well for me. I am 6' tall and I use it with 12' long, 28' wide fishing kayak. The vast majority of adults should be able to use this paddle comfortably, at least until they become kayak snobs. If it is too long, you can easily shorten it with a hacksaw and then drill new adjustment holes. Although the handgrips seem to be firmly in place, I believe they could be adjusted if necessary. I am not sure who would use the 96" Sea Sense paddle (the X-2), but it too could be chopped. At this price, you could always use either as a spare if you don't like it. Good luck!
We have three carlisle daytrippers and needed one more paddle but didn't want to spend as much. This one is shorter than the carlisle, but I am 5'2 and it's fine for me. The drip rings work great, it's lightweight, and I am actually starting to prefer it over the daytripper. If you are much taller than me then you may find it short, or if your cockpit is deep then it might be a problem. But with my shallow cockpit, I am very pleased and very glad we took the risk to buy a "cheaper" paddle.
Easy to break down. Works well. Adjustable to two positions. For the money, a very good paddle. I would buy this again.
This paddle is good and at a great price. I used and there is no problem with. it is a two piece, so you can use it as two paddles or one.
I was worried about buying a paddle this cheap, in fear that it wouldn't float. I was told by another store that only the more expensive paddles floated. Well this paddle held up great during my 6 hour kayak trip over the weekend, and it floated perfectly fine! Definitely a great purchase for the price!
This paddle comes in 2 pieces. One side has the little balls you depress and the other side has the holes the balls pop up into. Seems to be good quality. When it is put together it feels solid and doesn't have slack or wobble. Have not used it. Could get loose later due to wear and tear but time will tell. More later after I use it.
I'm new to kayaking so I picked this up really cheap. It actually seems to be built really well and study for the price. It propels my kayak with minimal effort so I would say anybody looking to buy this to save a few dollars, go for it!
I'm kinda new to kayaking, but this paddle is more than adequate for what I intend to do. It's lightweight, sturdy, balanced and has cushioned hand grips for comfort. Not planning on competitions, really heavy waves or major strong winds, so this should last for years and allow me to explore lakes and rivers and get some good exercise as well in an environmentally friendly way.
According to paddle guidelines, one is to extend the arm upward while standing up and be able to barely grab the paddle's tip from ground up in order to choose the right paddle, but also it depends on width of kayak and type of kayak. This is definitely a paddle for recreational kayaks. When wet, the kayak grips slip. It's very lightweight which is a plus, but when furiously paddling you feel as it would break also due to its lightweight. The drip cups are also an extra since most paddles do not come with a pair, and they do a decent job of keeping water from dripping down to the center. Seven feet lightweight paddles seem to be a standard for adults and 1.7lbs weight. Anything lighter than that and smaller would be a youth or child paddle, so this paddle is the basic adult recreational paddle with an amazing touch of affordability. The paddles have a curved shape which the picture do not show well, but depending on the strength of paddling that shape could be an advantage or a curse since when one paddles hard in strong currents, you can feel the pressure on the end of the paddle and it feels as if it will brake. That's what I meant by "furiously paddling" and being too light weight for anything other than casual recreational paddling. I would not use this paddle in open water with strong currents. For that I have also a seven foot, about 2 1/2 to 3 lbs weight shaft with straight paddles.
