I recommend this speaker particularly if you are using for small church. Clarity is awesome.
Bought one of these for monitors, and then ordered another after the first night, for matching monitors. I slightly played with my EQ, and got my FL-12MP's to sound just like MY voice - loud and clear. I really got my bang for my buck with these speakers! Thank You R Burger IOWA
For a 12” speaker, it has great sound. I compared it to my JBL jrx100, and it has a much fuller sound, although the JBL was a bit louder. I like having 1/4” and speakon inputs.
I am a solo acoustic performer and an audio engineer. I've owned 3, FL12MPs for 3 years. I use one as a stage monitor and the other two as mains when I play small to medium size venues. These are excellent sounding, reliable speakers. I also own a Yamaha A12M (that I don't use) which costs twice as much and sounds half as good. I highly recommend these speakers to my performing friends on a regular basis.
I got four of these monitors as a quick fix for a gig with a band that had a bunch of musicians; more musucians than I had monitors for. I was suprised by the build quality. I disassembled them to really get a good idea of their construction and as a carpenter myself I can say that they are very solid boxes. All 3/4" birch ply, braces, and blocking in all the corners, glued and air nailed; typical construction found in good quality speakers. Quality like this usually isn't found in speakers at this price point. Firing them up, I was pleasantly suprised by what I heard. Firstly, the sensitivity is accurate. Many manufacturers will exagerate the sensitivity claiming the highest peak in its response as its sensitivity. These speakers are very efficient. No need to exagerate. They sound very good. Voiced well for a floor monitor, the mids are clear and powerful. The top end is crisp and bright but not unrealistic or unnatural. The bottem end is punchy and full. It doesn't go extremely low, but its a 12" in a small box; you can't expect miracles. The low end is well balanced relative to rest of its range. The horn is oriented vertically which provides somewhat narrow side to side coverage. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but should be kept in mind when deciding if its the right speaker for your application. I can say I had one issue with them. While sound checking on a new and unfamiliar board I had a microphone ring for several seconds and it smoked a compression driver. There are a pair of lamps in the crossover circuit that provide a good degree of protection from driving them too hard, but they don't do much for continuous overpowering. Replacement diaphragms are cheap though so after a few minutes online, and two days later, a few screws turned and it was back up and running. An easy, inexpensive fix. I've had my monitors for almost a year now and have been nothing short of very satisfied. So much so that I'll be purchasing more soon.
