Read the reviews and determined this safe would fit my needs. Realizing the interior is made of particle board and the housing could be knocked off with a hammer (still requires a key), it is very functional and looks nice. I use half for guns and the other half for personable valuables and ammo, even holds a small fire proof safe I had (double protection). Can be slid on carpet by yourself (be careful not to create a carpet buckle) but requires 2-3 people with a hand truck to move. I am sure a similar safe that cost twice as much would be nicer but this safe makes my worries of theft, children or fire insignificant so why spend more money.
The unit itself is ok for the money. However the unit I received had apparently gotten wet. This was not completely perceptable from the outside. It was apparent when the door was opened and the carton that contains the shelf assembly was wet. Because of the large size and weight of this product, it is difficult to return (500 lbs). The facility used for storage (Walmart or drop ship - I don't know) or the manufacturer had to be aware that at some point their facility allowed the product to get wet. I wrote off the incident, threw out the warped, moldy smelling OSB , shelf assembly, thoughly cleaned the interior, and built a shelf assembly out of Cedar. If I had to do it again, I'd want to see heavy, bulky, expensive items in person first.
The safe itself should provide all the protection you need. It is well made and will certainly stop the casual burgler from accessing its contents. Delivery was made 5 days BEFORE the earliest date indicated -- great! The only weakness is the quality of the shelving. It's made of compressed wood, which is okay, but it seems to be quite weak and should be of a better quality and stonger. The interior is a gray, carpet-like lining but there were several places where it was showing wear just from shipping and one spot on the interior of the door where there was an actual 1-inch hole. I contacted SentrySafe customer service and they seem very helpful and should correct the problems with the lining. Don't plan to store heavy items (like ammo) on the shelves - especially the full-width top shelf. It won't hold any significant weight. There is also a distinct "solvent" odor inside the safe, but that is gradually disappearing over a week or so. Overall a good safe which should provide all the security you will probably need to protect guns, etc.
