The fire proof chest is exactly as expected. Heavy duty, well built and the right size for my needs. The key to finding the right one for me was a bunch of research and paying close attention to the interior dimensions. They make several similar looking variations of this chest. I wanted a handle and enough interior space so a piece of paper (11X8.5) would lay flat. This one fits the bill. I've ordered some desiccant packs to keep the interior dry. There are a couple straps on the inside of the lid that should hold the desiccant pack.
Like the size, price, look and door latch. My last senrty broke at the hinge when i was moving it. The old safe did not have the latch to hold the safe shut. When dropped the door opened and the hinge broke. I hope not to drop this safe but if I do, I would think the latch will hold the door shut and not compromise the structural integrity of the safe.
Our old safe was on its last leg and we needed something new. After looking around and considering a number of different safes, we decided on this one. It was a perfect choice! Meets our needs, easy to carry, and does not take up a lot of room in our small condo.
The Safe was larger than I thought, I was debating the chest size verses the file cabinet size. I was impressed by how much it would hold. The Registration took longer because I wasn't sure if I had the correct serial number. The Sticker inside just shows "NO.". The Sticker should state Serial Number, I double checker the inside and outside several times to make sure I had the correct number. See attached photo. "NO." should read "Serial Number".
It seems really durable, but the handle latch to open it seems like it could be more sturdy. It perfectly fits an 8.5x11 piece of paper, so it is good for that size documents and smaller, but it doesn't fit the 9x12 manilla envelopes unless you bend a 1/2" on the 9" side.
I appreciate this is not a safe, but would gladly pay more for it if the locking handle was metal and the key latch was metal. Just to give it some level of security. The size is adequate. It is easy to open and close, lock and unlock. I would recommend this product for what it is intended. Was purchased in sale, so it was good value.
Perfect size for my needs. Safe has good weight and is appealing to the eye. I broke a key first thing by locking before closing the lid. The key would not turn to unlock again without applying considerable force. Lock works easily IF you close the lid and then turn the key to lock. Replacement keys are very expensive.
It is a good product, but item arrived with a dent on one of the corners. It was shipped that way since packaged box was undamaged. I think twice before ordering from SAMS's online.
For the most part it's good but the big latch that you pull to open it pops off a lot of the time and has to be snapped back in place. You have to snap it back in place a few times because this is what allows the safe to open. It's only snapped together so what do you expect? Sometimes we can't even turn the key to unlock it. But that has only happened once. I would recommend this brand but just not this particular model.
I love this safe I have bought them in the past but this particular one the locking mechanism broke apart with every day use !! Could somebody call to fix or replace it's less than a year old please
