It was shipped fast and product had everything according to description. Site made it very easy. The Silhouette CAMEO is an amazing little machine. Another point I would like to bring up is customer service. Their customer service is amazing! If you email them during business hours, they respond within 5 minutes, if that. Now that's customer service! Another example is when I called their 1-800 number. I was expecting to wait on hold after pushing numerous buttons to get to the right Person. I dialed the number and I heard, "thanks for calling Silhouette...". Shocking! They were very friendly and helpful. Really... there's not much more to say about it. It was a bit tricky for me to use at first, but I made sure to use it once a day for a week or so and now, it's pretty simple. It is a big machine though, so it's hard for me to find a permanent place for it.
The product came shipped to me undamaged and the contents of the box upon visual inspection was undamaged. The cutting tool was very well packaged. Nothing shook or rattled. The box and its contents were all easy to unpack. The tools and supplies were all individually packaged in molded plastic. Contents of the box: Silhouette Cameo 2 3T electronic cutting tool, Silhouette studio software CD, USB cable (male type A plug to male standard B plug), Power cable (2 prong), 1-month Silhouette Design Store trial subscription card, $25 Silhouette download store credit. instruction manual, cutting blade pen, replacement cutting blade pen, Hook tool, Spatula tool, Universal scrapper tool, Pick-Me-Up tool, 12” light hold cutting mat, crosscutter, I received this as a free product to review so I can't really comment on the price. The device is lightweight. Much lighter than I thought it was going to be. The plastic seems very durable and the machine assembled neatly. Under the hood, it was very well constructed. A lot like a printer but instead of ink cartridges it uses cutting pens. Such a neat idea! This this model, the user has two options: Hook it up to a PC or Mac and use the software design CD or load a design onto a USB flash drive and plug it in to the USB port on the cutter. The manual was clearly and concisely written and easy to understand. It was detailed enough to understand the mechanics and functions of the machine, but in easy enough terms for most people to avoid information overload and/or confusion. I'm including this information here in case you have the same issue I did. My laptop did not have a CD drive so I had to download the software online from www.silhouetteamerica.com/support. If there are problems or you need replacement parts you can also see that info there. I strongly suggest that the first thing you should do is register your Cameo. If you do have issues you can contact them on their toll free number: 1-800-859-8243. (current as of 10-1-15). Coming in fall of 2015, there will be a mobile app for android and iOS to make it even more awesome! If you're new to this stuff, it might be a little overwhelming to take it all in. This thing can do so much stuff in cutting. Take it in small chunks and you'll do fine. It can cut things up to 12 inches wide and 10 feet long. The device isn't any louder than a printer, cuts accurately and is easy to work with once you learn how the settings work and adjusting the cutting pens. This can do just about anything up to just slightly under 3 mils thickness. Fabrics, vinyl, heat transfer paper, sticker sheets, temporary tattoo patterns, card stock, poster board, even those thin magnets! The included tools are pretty durable and well constructed. They work well. The touchscreen works well and you don't have to press really hard for it to work. My summary, I think this thing rocks and everyone should own one, or two, or three. This thing is nearly limitless with the things that can be made with this machine. I highly recommend this product. Their staff is very friendly and willing to answer any questions and offer support as needed. I love them and I really love this thing!
I love love LOVE my Silhouette Cameo! I have been wanting one of these babies for a while now. Just the other day I was telling my husband that I wanted one for Christmas. Well Christmas came early this year. When I saw the big brown box sitting by my door step I couldn't wait to open it. I rushed through the door and opened it as quickly as possible. The whole time my daughter kept on asking me what it was and I would answer her ever time. Finally I just told her “It's my new dream machine” and I was not lying. This wondrous machine is amazing and you can make just about anything with it. My favorite thing to make is stencils but there is much more you can do with it. I have used to it cut letters for signs or banners. I have used it to make holiday decorations. Another fun project I have done was a contact paper cut out to do a glass etching. My next project I am going to use the Cameo to make window clings as a privacy cover for my bathroom window. Silhouette's online store has a lot of cheap designs to make awesome projects and I just can't get enough of it. I am always planning my next project.
First let me just start by saying I was a little confused on how to get started it was a little overwhelming to me lol, so the first thing I did was to hit YouTube.com if you ever need to know anything look there and I found great videos on how to get started from unpacking to putting in the blade, I would say to start there. I am so excited to to try the Silhouette CAMEO Essentials Bundle I do a lot of crafting that I could use this for. It comes with everything you need to get started except the paper which was disappointing because I really wanted to get started right away I wish they would have put a few starter pieces to try it with. So I'm not gonna lie I wanted to try it so bad that I tried to use it with construction paper I had a home and it didn't work so good the paper was to thin and it cut the cutting mat a little but not all the way through so don't try that lol. The kit comes with all the stuff you need to get started the scraper that it comes with is essential to keep the cutter mat clean. The Silhouette CAMEO Essentials Bundle is also equipped with the ability to us a flash drive card so you can even share your downloaded designs with friends. They say you can cut up to 12" to 10' which is impressive. Your kit will also come with a $25 Silhouette Studio gift card to download more designs or what ever else they sell. So I just got the Silhouette CAMEO Essentials Bundle but I'm looking forward to seeing what I can make. If your thinking about buying you should spend a few more dollars and get the Essentials Bundle and everything will be included.
As soon as I knew this was coming, I downloaded the free Silhouette Studio and watched some videos to help me get familiar with the Silhouette Cameo Essentials Bundle. There's so much to learn, which so far doesn't seem too difficult, plus there are plenty of help videos online, too. I love wall art and that will be my first project, well, assuming I can learn quickly. Silhouette America was kind enough to add a $25.00 gift card for the Silhouette Design online store, and a free one month subscription to the online store as well. I've already purchased a dust cover from Walmart and some vinyl and transfer paper to make some wall art. The Silhouette Studio Program is easy to use, and I've been busy just playing with it with ideas in mind. The Silhouette Cameo is a bit noisy. At first it scared me, I thought something was wrong with the machine but I found online that it is a noisy machine. Not so much that it's horrible but the first time I used it, I didn't know. I'm not what anyone would call crafty but who knows, now that I have this, and it is so much fun to be creative using the Silhouette Cameo Essentials Bundle and software. You, too, can create!
The Silhouette Cameo is an electronic cutting machine. Not only does it cut paper and vinyl, but it also cuts fabric with a fabric blade and writes when used with Silhouette pens. You can use the writing pens followed by the cutting blade to create custom stickers or temporary tattoos. The basic instruction guide that comes with the machine is a condensed version of the manual. The complete user's manual is available online. Setting up the machine was really easy. The touch screen takes you through some basic settings: language, color schemes, activation of help icons and a brief tutorial. After the initial setup, there are only three function buttons plus one for settings. Using the Cameo is simple as well. All you do is line up the cutting mat or media, press the appropriate button on the touch screen, then send the project from your pc/laptop to your machine. When the task is complete you unload the mat/media. While the machine is pretty simple and straightforward, there is a lot to learn with the software. The basic edition of Silhouette Studio is included with the machine and upgrades to Designer and Business Editions are available for purchase. With Silhouette Studio Designer Edition, you can import and edit images or merge multiple image files together. You can also upload pictures and trace them to make files to cut or print. I have had my Cameo for a couple of weeks now, and so far I've created designs using the tracing feature in the software. I used heat transfer vinyl and adhered my customized designs to aprons and t-shirts. I etched glass using clear adhesive laminate as a stencil. I also monogrammed my favorite wine glass with vinyl. There are many other things I want to learn (cutting fabric to use with appliqués on my embroidery machine, 3D projects like bags and boxes, and making multi-layered greeting cards), that it's easy to get overwhelmed since there is much to learn about each craft. My suggestion is to learn as much as you can about one craft before moving onto another. And to start small. Some of the things to consider when buying the Essentials Bundle: -It does not come with the crafting material...like vinyl, a fabric blade or writing pens. I suggest ordering your materials while you are ordering the bundle. -The power cord is quite long, but the USB cable is only 3 feet long. So unless you find a longer cord, the machine has to sit fairly close to your computer when in use. -It does come with some very useful tools that I may not have chosen to purchase, but I'm so glad they were in the box. The weeding hook is necessary for removing unwanted pieces, and the spatula has made removing my vinyl from the cutting mat very easy. -The $25 gift card does not seem like much, but it goes a long way in the Silhouette Store. Most of their designs are under $2. So, if you decide to download the free software to practice on while you are waiting for your machine to arrive, don't buy any designs yet. Find some free ones on the internet to practice with. A one month free trial membership to the Silhouette Store is also included, but I can't review that as I haven't activated it yet. Overall, I like the Silhouette Cameo. A lot. I highly recommend this machine and I am already thinking about some of the other machines Silhouette offers.
Ok so it took me a little longer than expected to get this review posted simply because I had to order vinyl online, this bundle does NOT come with any starter vinyl by the way, for those who were wondering, so I recommend ordering your vinyl at the same time as ordering your machine so you don't have to impatiently wait ;) The bundle comes with several tools, a extra blade, a small spatula, a hook, a pick me up tool for adding gems etc and a small scraper. Just from my personal experience you will need to order a larger scraper, the one provided is only about two inches which is fine but I just prefer bigger to cover more surface when working. Also will recommend ordering dental tools for the weeding (taking out the small vinyl cut out parts you won't use in your design) since they are sharper, smaller and more precise. You can get these pretty darn cheap online. It also comes with a 25 dollar gift card for silhouette design store where you can buy designs to download. I believe they are all .99 cents so that will but a lot of designs. I will admit , I'm a bit intimidated if this machine lol. There is a book to read, a dvd to watch and lots of practicing to do but all in all its a VERY impressive machine. I've heard it's so much better than the cricuit brand cutting machine though I don't know from personal experience. You can also cut card stock paper on this machine, the craft and design possibilities are absolutely endless! I'm so excited to see what I can come up with next. I have a friend who has the same machine AND a heat press so I had her press this shirt for my son. I can't imagine anybody would ever get bored with this machine! So excited!
I will be completely honest in this review, I did receive the Silhouette Cameo Bundle for free as part of the Walmart Spark Review program. That being said, I have no affiliation with the Silhouette company. I absolutely love this machine! The bundle package is perfect and completely necessary to be able to use the machine right out of the box. You must have a computer and Internet access to be able to use the Cameo to its full potential. The Silhouette website has announced that an app is in the works for Fall 2015, but I have not seen anything come up for Silhouette Studios in the Apple App Store. I spent the weekend playing with designs, purchasing new designs and making some pretty awesome paper crafts. Most designs cost $0.99, fonts between $1.99 and $2.99. Every week a new design is offered for free and other designs go on clearance, usually for $0.75. I fell in love with this machine before I even used it while watching You Tube video tutorials. In one day I created several birthday cards and Fall/Halloween decorations for around the house. I can't wait to try some of the other accessories like the glittery iron-on material to make wonderful handmade gifts for Christmas. I've already been commissioned to make props for my daughter's school Christmas program using the machine to cut fabric letters for banners. The crafting options are endless with the Silhouette Cameo.
I waited so anxiously for my silhouette cameo essentials bundle to ship to my house! It is by far the best crafting tool that I have ever owned! I mean the possibilities with it are endless! Cards, paper art, 3d paper art, t shirt transfers, personalized bags, key chains, notebooks, cups, phone cases, signs, I could go onnnnn and onnnn. This machine cuts vinyl to make tshirts, or adhesive vinyl to personalize basically anything that moves! I've made 2 birthday gifts within 2 weeks of owning this machine. I've also made some cool cardstock art. This bundle comes with a few nifty tools. It also comes with a $25 gift card to the silhoutte store. You can purchase designs and fionts downloaded to your computer. My husband is even excited about it! He wants to start printing video game labels. You can also use sketch pens with the machine to draw things or make invitations, and really whatever else you want to make. I am so excited that I finally have a silhouette cameo! It's touch screen and very easy to execute. I reccommend looking up some you tube videos to help you get started. If you are on the fence about this, GET IT!!!!! You won't regret it! It's an awesome investment, and you can make soooooo many thing with it!
I have never owned a cutting machine because of the price, but have always wanted to try one. I jumped on this opportunity and was very excited. Mine came with a bunch of little extras, which made me even more excited. After taking everything out of the box, removing all of the foam from around the cutting device, and reading the instruction booklet, the setup was very simple. Now since I have never used a program like this before I decided to try a simple project first. I cut out some card stock snowflakes for my kids to tape on their bedroom doors for the holidays (probably could have looked better with adhesive card stock instead). However, this did not go as smoothly as it sounds. My first two snowflakes started out by cutting into my mat. I googled what I was doing wrong and found out I had to load the mat with the paper stuck to it before sending the design to the cutter. I felt slow, but I was not the only one. My cutter had no problems cutting this design and they turned out as expected. In addition to that minor issue, I have a slightly bigger issue. My cutter keeps cutting off and not wanting to turn back on until the next day. I called customer support and was on the line for a long time waiting on a representative. Then they gave me the option to leave a message for them to call me back, so I did. When I spoke to them about my issue, they said it sounds like I am losing connection from the computer to the cutter. After asking me to double-check that my cord was still plugged in (which it was), they placed me on hold and then hung up on me. This happened a few times. I cannot find any information about this online, but I am not going to give up on my machine just yet. Nevertheless, for now, I have packaged it back up in the box to keep if from getting dusty. I will try to find more information online to see if others have had this issue, and possibly find a solution. In my opinion, I have a bad power cord. Needless to say, there are still several features that I have yet to try out. :(
