I was very pleased with the machine being threaded upon arrival. Also, I liked the video on the internet explaining how to use the machine. It is very helpful. I have only had it for 2 weeks, but so far, it is very good.
I received this machine as a gift last Christmas, and was a little bit overwhelmed with everything I didn't know (to say nothing of the things that at the time, I didn't know I didn't know)! But fast forward 5 months, and I'm well on my way. The machine is easier to use than I ever imagined, and in those instances where I could not find the answer in the manual or online, the email support at singerco.com has been exceptional! Thank you for making such a good quality basic machine. In my opinion, it is perfect for the beginner. I have used it to perform various additions to garments (fringe and edging), as well as to make alterations. I have even learned to do a pretty decent blind hem, and I'm about to tackle my first pattern! Perhaps I will outgrow this machine one day, but in the meantime, I absolutely love it!
This is my very first sewing machine and first time using one as well. The product was easy to set up even for a 'newbie'. I was sewing within the hour of pulling it out of the box. This is a very basic sewing machine which is nice because it isn't confusing to get going or fix simple errors. If you are learning to begin sewing this is the machine for you!
This machine was easy to use right out of the box! I use it for simple small projects like making little zipper bags or fixing a hem. Works so well! It's also a very quiet machine compared to my last sewing machine!
I just Ove it! It's been years since I had one and I'm getting back to sewing!
Easy to set up and use. I like the accessories in the secret compartment, the easy threading and the fact that the cord unplugs from the machine. My last sewing machine was 37 years old and the only thing wrong with it was the cord twisted off. I mainly do mending-but have sewn clothes and quilts and curtains. I like the amount of stitches-that can be accessed by a turn of the dial and also that the carrying handle is built into the machine. I just use a dust cover. A good basic machine for menders or beginners.
The good news... great price & you get many opportunities to practice re-threading. The bad news... you get many opportunities to practice re-threading. Keeping the adage "You get what you pay for" in mind, this machine has met my expectations of a device in this price range. I am a beginner and had only sewn one project, as a learning exercise, prior to purchasing the 1512 Promise II. My goal was to help my son create an ambitious, custom, but fun Halloween costume. Given my limited experience and infrequent need, I was not ready to invest in a professional grade machine. Based on cost and local availability, I settled on the 1512 Promise II model, despite mixed reviews. My experience with this machine was a positive one, albeit frustrating at times. I was able to deliver an acceptable version of the desired costume (particularly given my skill level) and my son was proud to wear it. The 1512 did not let me down, in the long run. However, I would warn that the bobbin is touchy and can be a source of frustration, until you get a feel for how to keep it threaded between stitches. In my case I had to ensure there was at least 8" of thread pulled through the needle, etc. after each stitch (the manual suggests up to 6"). After some initial discouragement, trial & error, I was able to "get the hang of it" and my project went relatively smoothly from that point on. Overall, the quality of this product is relatively low, but consistent with other models in this price range and I had no issues other than the fussy bobbin. I've actually used it for a few small projects since and am looking forward to the next. I would recommend the Singer 1512 to others on a budget. With the disclaimer that patience is required, until you become familiar with using this specific machine.
I've had this model for years and barely use it due to constant bobbin issues. The thread and bobbin are both loaded correctly, even checked against the manual, and no matter what the back side will loop and bunch, break, and even skip stitches. Thread has broken off the bobbin and gotten stuck in the machine, causing major issues. Definitely not a recommended model.
I have owned this machine for less than a year. I don't sew too much on it- but when trying to make cotton pillow covers- I was needing to pull the fabric because the feeder dogs were not coming up. There is NO adjustment. I called to ask Singer- and they said I'd have to go get it repaired- taking it to a repair person would cost more than the machine. It is cheaply made- and honestly made me consider never sewing again. it is unacceptable for Singer to produce a machine that doesn't allow people to work on it. I'm very disappointed- and I will not be purchasing another Singer- unless they can make something of quality.
If I could rate this with 0 stars I would. The sewing machine arrived at my house broken. I never even got the chance to use it once because the bobbin winder was broken and I couldn't bypass that issue to get the machine to sew. I called singer and the only options I had was to return it for a refund or put it in the shop to have it fixed. So I returned it. Now I have to wait 2 weeks to get my money back. This was a terrible experience for me and now I scared to order from singer again. My family and friends will now have to wait longer to receive the mask they need.
