i've tried using phone based arrival and departure, but it is quite slow because the phone has to be awake to report to the internal app its gps position. using these zigbee sensors works much better and more quickly (set for the 2 minute updates) since they are actively polling the smarthings hub making them independent of the phones sleep state and gps positioning. haven't had it long enough to determine battery life but will report that once i've replaced the batteries a couple of times.
This device is on my key chain. When I pull up at home my outside lights turn on without fail. Helps to see going in in the dark.
Worked as expected. No issues with the sensor functionality. I think the only real drawback is that the hub takes time to recognize it. I use it primarily to turn the lights on when I walk in. I usually walk into a dark home (apartment) and have to wait until the lights kick on! It would be much more convenient if the lights went on as soon as the sensor was in range. It does not. For me, that and the battery life are really the only drawbacks.
Even with smartthings set to only a 1 minute timeout the sensor/base is still slow to detect presense. Leaving takes about 4 minutes, coming home takes about 1 minute. Battery life is terrible. I was replacing the battery once a month. Then after about 6 months it just stopped working. Always says I'm away. I removed it from smartthings and didn't bother to put it back. It does however connect to ST easily and triggers routines fine (when it was working).
I have (4) of these. The battery life is horrible. A couple of them every 3-5 months I have to swap the battery. One of the other things I noticed is that not all of them are reconnecting. This didn't happen for the first year of having them but now I have to remove them from SmartThings and add them back to the system. Then they work for a week and then go back to not being recognized. That being said. When they are working it's great to have this type of device. My wife doesn't always use her cellphone data so it's not reliable for a location indication. And my two kids don't have cellphones. This allows lights to come on as we come into the drive way at night, or shuts off the house and puts it in away when we leave. It's a good idea but poorly executed.
This is the by far worst product, I have ever happened to buy (i am sure there would be worst that i happened not to buy yet). This does not functions, limits to a small range due to technology unless you have repeater installed near doors, battery drains very fast. You end up disarming or perform the function your self. So, save yourself money and dont buy it.
Problem No. 1: works very badly, location is not accurate, when you leave the house it continues to indicate a presence, when it is not real, other times you get home and the system understands that you are still far away, in short it is very unreliable, Problem No. 2: Excessive battery consumption, you have to walk with the sensor and with a spare battery in your pocket :) It is a Smartting products that has disconnected me
Do not buy. Does not work. It will connect easily to smart home hub but will not recognize when the sensor leaves the area. I walked around the block and the app still said the sensor was present. Don't waste your money as I purchased 3 and regret it.
Almost never works and the battery didn't even last two months. Terrible product.
I bought 3 of these devices. 2 stopped working within 2 months. Horrible battery life.
