This box set presents the restored version of what is arguably producer-director Kevin Sullivan's best-known and most acclaimed creation: the Anne series, adapted from Lucy Maud Montgomery's beloved books. Included here are Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story and Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning. The cast includes Megan Follows, Colleen Dewhurst, Barbara Hershey and Shirley MacLaine. The now-familiar epic saga dramatizes events from the life of Anne Shirley (Follows) who spends her childhood as a struggling orphan but ultimately matures into a promising and gifted young teacher who searches for her missing husband on European battlefields. In the fourth and last installment, Hershey turns up as the adult Anne, who has become a famous author and a mother, and waits for her son to return from World War II, meanwhile attempting to reconcile herself with painful memories from childhood.
