I have loved my reader since the first day! It's compact, easy to read and simple to use. I commute every day on the train and it is perfect for that. It even has different zoom settings. I still have a lot to learn about it, but I love that I didn't have to go through a bunch of instructions to get started! Make sure that you charge it up before you go anywhere!
I absolutely love this product. Meets all my expectations. I especially love the fact that I can download Ebooks from my public library. Beats being tied in to Kindle and Amazon all the time.
I've had the Sony PRS-505 for more than a year. I had the earlier version, the PRS-500 for a year before that. I cannot live without my reader. I love always having more than 100 books in my purse at all times. I always have just what I want to read. I love that my current digital library of more than 500 books takes up no room in my house, just a few gigabytes on my computer. The Sony book store has thousands of books. They have new releases on the same day that they are released to bookstores. In an earlier review, Nichname says he returned his reader after learning some of the books expire after a time. This is not true of the books you buy. Some public libraries allow you to check out digital books to read on your reader, and those will expire. Just like any other library book, you are only allowed to use them for a limited time. Other books are yours to keep.
How did I ever live without this?? I am a voracious reader, and the Sony Ereader is a godsend! I just can't keep up with storage for all my books and now I won't have to. It's all downloaded in my computer library and on the reader. The Sony is so easy to use and I love the red color. I looked at the Amazon Kindle and it sounded ok, but I didn't need the wikipedia or magazine and newspaper stuff, and downloading off the computer only takes seconds so the whispernet was not much of a factor. Plus, the Kindle is a little bigger. My Sony is perfect! I highly recommend it!
Love it, love it love it!!!!!!. Have already recommended it to just about everyone who has crosses my path. Great way to save space. When I go some where i usually take a book and it's always at the end of the book this way I can have a new book waiting. And i get to choose the book from the ones I've downloaded. Downloading is easy and quit. I do wish that the books were way below store cost since we're not getting the paper why doesn't it cost less.
Iam very happy with this product,it maintains a really good charge, i just wish it had a built in light, for the cost of it anyway, the only thing that confuses me is that when i turn a page the screen flashes about 2 times before it goes to the new page,is that normal?either way,i love it!!!!
Like alot of people I like to read and I have a lot of books that I end up having to store. Now I am running out of space and I want to get rid of my bookcase and books. As far as I'm concerned the Sony Reader is an excellent source when you have limited income and constantly reading a book. Now I can download my books from e-books and don't have to worry about storing anything.
I love this product. I had checked other similar products, and felt that this would be the best for me. Walmart had the best price! I love to read and have run out of room for hard copy books. I don't put "classics" on this, just books I want to read once. My only complaint is that, if you have strong security on you computer, the firewall will prevent the successfull loading of program and access to the ebook store. I had to load everything on my laptop rather than my home computer. Other than that, it's fantastic!
It has many of the features that you would expect in a digital reader and some. The various formats that it supports add to the value significantly. Ordering from the Sony Store was a little more cumbersome than I would have liked as it required that I digitally authorize the reader before downloading purchased books. Another issue I had initially is that some PDF file ebooks had formatting issues when displayed on the reader. A quick pdf to rtf conversion fixed all of those errors. (seperate program required) However, for the price and convenience I am not sure I could go back to reading traditional books again.
My recomendation to buy t his product is only for an avid reader. The screen was clear, it held a sufficient amount of data, and for the function which it was advertised, it is a good product - BUT - I returned it. In trying to find eBooks for it, I was faced with Sony or Sony or Sony, and didn't find the book I wanted (big turn off). In addition, I have very little time to read for pleasure, so it takes me a long time to get through a book. Finding out that some books expire after a time, really turned me off the the whole eBook concept. Maybe when I retire it will be worth while. All of my comments have to be considered in context though - Whic is: I dedicated only a day to finding eBooks. I know that Amazon has them, but I was looking for a particular title. I went to a couple of National chain book stores, and the blank stares preceding the " No we don't carry them", kind-of told me that this was a nitch type of thing. As for the concept - I like it, and plan to jump in again when I get more time. The idea of being able to carry several books with no more effort than carrying a single book (or device) is very appealing to me.
