We bought this for my son for Christmas and his excitement is next level. We were really happy until we realised the charger is broken, and the spare charger I bought is also broken. (Writing this on Boxing Day, so a manufacturing error not a user error)
We are loving the Spacewatch, I have recommended to my family and friends. Both my sons one each and it so great to know that we can reach them and they can reach us when they are not with us. They feel so much more independent and trusted which is a really important part of growing and developing. I have only 2 small gripes... the battery life is quite short, but it's all about getting into a routine of charging and wearing. Also, non-waterproof....its remembering to take it off for showers and swims. We've had a few near misses. But again, it's all about independence and learning about ownership.
I am happy with this watch for my 10 year old daughter. The only disappointment is that there is no video calling. I thought there was when I bought it and sad there is not. Other watches have this feature so I don't think it is a big quality to include.
We purchased a SPACETALK watch for our 7 year old daughter. It has helped her anxiety about being an school immensely as she is able to communicate with me and other family members we give permission to via message during her school breaks. Its also been great for me to be able to receive these emoji messages during the day to know that she is doing well at school. The school mode is great and prevents any calls in or out during this time. It has been a huge confidence booster for her. The added safety measure of the alert if she exits the safe zone is also a great feature. Would highly recommend this product!!
Love to know that I am able to contact my son if I need to. My son is only 8 so he doesn’t still heavily rely on his watch but we find comfort knowing that he can contact us in an emergency. Will eventually allow us to give him have a bit more independence. I didn’t find the app to be the easiest to navigate and it didn’t really come with a user manual so took a while setting up contacts etc. I also thought it was disappointing that there is a monthly subscription fee after paying a fair amount for the watch itself and not to mention the monthly plan required for data, calls etc. We have also noticed the short battery life.
Positives: perfect for my son to use and be able to be in contact, given we do not want to give him a phone yet. Independence is a lovely thing! Negatives: what's with the 3G? It will no longer be functional after 2024 through Telstra. Also I think we are locked into Telstra but still investigating that one. Not loving that. Also battery life, even with moderate usage. Would have expected more. Have read previous comments on battery life so am conscious of usage. Doesn't seem to make a bit difference - definitely not 20hours worth as recommended. So parent perspective is it is limited and designed to be a short term thing. Kid perspective - it's all good!
Absolutely love the watch but given the demographic, the fact they're not waterproof is a HUGE detraction. I wouldn't have bought it if I'd realised (my mistake for not reading the specs properly). Nonetheless, we've always had gamins and they're fully waterproof so I really don't know why this can't be made to be more durable for kids' activities. My son (8) ruined his within seven days. We'll be replacing with an apple watch. BUT it's a great product if your little one is responsible enough to remember 100% of the time to take it off before shower/bath/swimming, including while at friend's houses etc.
Waste of money sim card lock in broke in seconds. The watch continually says disconnected and the update of where my child is doesn't update. It works for a couple of days and then stops again! Don't buy get a phone!
This is an outrageous product and monitoring service. The watch is cheaply made and the ongoing monthly fee is most unwelcome. Once the novelty wears off, we will cease paying this exorbitant cost.
We really had hoped that this would be the solution for us. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The battery didn't even last a full day even with GPS tracking turned off and school mode on. The connection is so intermittent and unreliable, messages would show up hours later or no network connection when needed most. The sim was telstra and worked perfectly when tested in a phone. I wish I had something positive to say but it really offered nothing worth noting and ended up stuck in the drawer because that's how functional it was. Have cancelled the app and will resign to a list small fortune. Such an excitement device, with ongoing app costs should function so so so much better.
