I have purchased many humidifiers in an attempt to keep my bone dry house above 30% humidity during the winter. Of all the units I have (6 of them) this one is by far the best, and it's the cheapest of all of them! There are a few minor issues, and I'll go over them last, but positives for this unit are: 1. Huge 2 gallon tank that is easy to remove, fill, and replace. 2. Output can be set from a trickle to draining the entire tank in less than 24 hours - and that's a lot of water. 3. Inexpensive to run. Very inexpensive. Only uses 25 watts on max setting. Wow. That's the least of any humidifier I've had. Also, there are no filters or mineral carts to replace. Gotta love that. 4. Easy to clean. Use cheap bulk water treatment (liquid demineralizer and bacteria killer added to the water) with every other refill and the unit won't even get dirty very fast. But when it does get buildup, its very easy to clean. 5. It's quiet as a mouse! This unit barely makes any noise whatsoever. No gurgling noise, no fan noise (there is no fan), no water movement noise (like on some other sonic humidifiers), no turbine/mechanical noise. Nothing! I have to put my ear to within 1 - 2 feet of it to hear the faint gentle hum of whatever is driving the ultrasonic vaporizer. Minor issues: 1. On the highest output setting the vaporized water is very dense and will dampen nearby objects, like carpeting below the unit. It needs to be a good 3 - 4 feet above anything (like the floor) or the mist will drop down and strike whatever is below before it is able to evaporate into the air. 2. The mist director should be pointing the mist a little higher into the air (or should be adjustable to do this) so that the mist is shot high enough to avoid dampening things below, and also the director is kind of a pain because it must be taken out and set aside while filling or it will fall out onto the floor when you turn the tank over to fill it. 3. One of the units I bought was broken upon arrival. The water detector did not detect water and therefore the unit would not run. I hope this doesn't indicate that the sensor is delicate and might eventually break on my other unit. So far so good though. Overall the unit is very simple but does what it is supposed to do very well. Good value...so far. I run the unit nearly 24 hours a day, every day. If it happens to break before one year of use I'll post back here and lop off a star or two for reliability, which I can't speak to since I have not owned this unit long enough.

Very Quiet

I have been searching for a humidifier for a couple months and have purchased others and returned them due to the fact that they leak or are very noisy. This one is awesome. No noise at all except for an occassional water bubble. It holds almost 2 gallons so you don't have to refill as often. It is heavy when full. If you have it on full mist, the floor around will become damp but I use it on a lower mist level and have it up on a stool and have had no problems. When it shuts down due to low water, there is still alot of water in the base which needs some extra care to make sure it doesn't spill when emptying it. But over all I am very satisfied with it so far. I just hope this one will last as long as my last one did.

Good small size considering its capacity. Produces abundant humidity. VERY quiet...almost silent while operating at full output. Only weak point is the design of the tank in regard to filling. Once the tank is full of water, it is fairly heavy and slippery. While filling, the tank is upside down and therefore the carrying handle is under the tank which means you have to wrestle it back upright without the benefit of any handle to hold on to. This product is good enough that I plan to buy two more if it continues to perform without any trouble.

I am very pleased with this humidifier. It is easy to clean with no filter to replace a big plus with our hard water. It's easy to fill but is a bit heavy to carry so be aware. With mist on high we have no problem with dampness around the unit, very dry in AZ. Being a 2 gal. capacity and used in the bedroom I only have to fill every 4 days or so.

I just plugged mine up a few hours ago, and it already seems to be helping. (I'm not getting shocked every time I touch something now. lol) It took a little longer to get it than I expected, but not too bad. The unit is pretty well made, and it is EXTREMELY quiet. You can't even tell its running unless you turn up the knob to see the mist coming out. It has a nice sized hole in the water tank so cleaning should be fairly easy. So far, I'm pleased with this purchase!

I placed this in our kitche/dining area and it works well. The main heat return is located high up on the 10 ft wall so we took a 30 in piece of pvc pipe and placed in the mist dispensing slot, 2 and fourth inch pipe fit perfectly, glued an adapter joint on the end and the mist dispensing cap fit that perfectly, so the mist is now closer to the vent for it to pull in and high enough to disapate the mist as it falls. You must glue the adapter onto the pipe or it will let the moisture run down the pipe...although it simple drained into the opening back into the chamber. We decided it also cut down the output of vapor mist so glue took care of it. This unit is strong enough to keep about a four hundred sq ft area around 50 percent it will drop to 30 if you use it like we have allowing it to flow to other room....and that will drop about 4/5 percent to other rooms. We need a larger unit, say one that dispenses 7 to 9 gallon in 24 hours for 2000 Sq ft. which is what we used for years but hated it because it was so big and had a filter in it....the spout that we made would be wonderful on a bigger unit to be able to get it close to out heating intake and now that we found the Zero Water to filter our water we may purchase the large one. No filter in the unit though! With the filterless unit there is no white dust if you use filtered water. The Zero Water filter (Amazon) takes the water to 0 and does better than the Brita. Keeping the air moist no less than the 40's better at 50 will keep sinus and sore throats away during the months the heat is on.....I have to have it or I get the continuous winter sinus cold.

This humidifier does a great job humidifying the room. It is quiet , does not leak, and does not leave anything nearby wet or covered with white residue. I'm sure that my use of distilled water has helped with the lack of white residue. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is a little bit of a pain to refill. You have to lift the reservoir off the base(which is filled with water) and turn the dripping reservoir over to remove the plug and fill it from the bottom. Other than that one design issue, it appears to be well thought out and solidly built. I would buy it again.

The unit itself works but the adjusting level doesn't have an arrow to tell you what it set at.The directions don't tell the customer to start at a really low level and then increase a little each night. I set mine the first night and woke up to a ruined wooden bedstand and a soaked comforter! I was not a happy camper!

The on-off switch did not even turn this humidifier on. I returned it to Walmart on the following day and observed three identical units which had also been returned. Evidently, the manufacturer has no quality control. I strongly advise Walmart and its customers to avoid purchases from the maker of Sunpentown humidifiers.

getting louder over time

It started very quiet, but after a week it got louder and louder. 4 weeks now, it is so loud that I am going to return it. Also, if the mist level is set high, the mist makes the floor wet -- which doesn't bother me that much because I tried the middle mist level, and it works fine for me, and keeps the floor dry.
