My 14 year old has anxiety, and this stuff is one of her favorite things to carry around. The color change is fun, although it stays the "warm" color most of the time. She likes to put it in front of the A/C for a bit to play with the color change. But mostly its the putty itself that she likes to work with. Great product!
But I cheated and used a blow dryer (in the tin and for a short amount of time) to activate the color changing! It really does take a lot of doing to make it start changing colors if youre doing it by hand, but it works (and changes more quickly afterwards), and if youre using it as intended, worth it. The purple and red very noticeably change colors, but the green is a lot more subtle! As youre working on the green, it goes from the darker slime green to an almost neon green and doesnt show the temperature change as much when it reaches the neon green color.Aside from that, the texture of it is kind of off putting at first. It has an almost oily feel to it, but as you handle it, it kinda sorta goes away I can only assume youre either kneading it back into the putty, or youre kneading it into your own hands. Or a little bit of both. Either way, Id probably avoid getting it onto clothes or furniture.It also kind of have a sweetish chemical smell to it. Its not a strong scent youd have to hold it to your nose to really smell it, but its there. In case you are sensitive to that sort of thing. Its all in all not a bad buy at all. I was kind of hesitant because of some of the reviews (because I scan the reviews like nobodys business), but my personal experience was not bad at all. It definitely helps if you fidget with things with your hands, and it has definitely worked out the muscles in my hands, wrists and forearms!
I have this same type of heat-reactive putty, under a different label and hadnt heard this before until I read a review for yet another brand of putty..It said the heat-reactive component of the putty will change more quickly if it is exposed to higher heat before attempting to manipulate it with your hands..I took half of each color and placed it on a cookie sheet, while still in the tin, and placed it in a 150 oven for a few minutes. As you can see from the photos, each color made a notable shift, the green being the least dramatic..There are two purple shades, and they shift to either blue or pink, so if you received two, it may not be the same putty after all..Try warming them up at a little higher temperature (and common sense here- let them cool first!) before attempting to achieve the color-shift by hand, and see if that makes a difference. It worked for me. Now they change color very responsively with only the warmth from my hands..They are very thick and a bit slick-feeling, but not sticky at all. I notice the "oily" sensation, but there is no actual oil or grease to speak of..These are some of my favorite putties to play with and once the heat-reactivity is primed, I think you will be as pleased with the results as I have been.
These are super cool! The colors took a long time to change, but we worked on each one, and the change is very clear and obvious when it happens. It was much easier to warm the whole thing up and then use cold things to change a part back than it was to change it to the warm color. There was a lot of putty in each tin. Lots of fun!
Weve made all kinds of different slime and play-dough - usually one of my students finds a way to make a giant mess. With this putty it doesnt happen! No mess. They pull it apart like theyre making noodles - it always comes back together! The color changing part is fun too. I like the metal tin it comes in as well, great way to store the putty.
The putty was very hard when I first got it. Theres a lot of putty in each tin and they color change. If you put them in hot water, use a hair dryer on the mode "hot" and "high", and make it hot by using it a lot.. To make it softer, soak it in hot water and squeeze it. I loved it.
This will be great to use in my play therapy practice for when clients feel anxious or frustrated. The colors are bright and the individual tins are perfect to allow time between clients so I can ensure there are no germs spread during this time of social isolation.
My son likes putty and we keep it on hand as a "sensory break" when hes getting frustrated at something like math work or video games. This putty is pretty tough, which I think makes it more perfect for our needs. The color changing is good, maybe a little slow. But it works well and my son likes them.He mixed them up into an **** **** color because hes 7. Said he wanted to see what color theyd change to. Whatcha gonna do.
So I ended up ordering 4 sets bc I kept getting a repeat of colors. My though were that if I bough one set I was getting one of each color, negative ! So I kept one of each color and returned the rest. Pain in the butt but I do like the puffy and mine change color easily. I use it to help me stay calm or focus at work on occasion, I enjoy this was more then a fidget spinner while being at work. Overall good stuff just dont expect one of each color when u order.
Missed the opportunity to send this back but would have. Bought as Easter stuffer so didnt open until a month+ after purchase. Weve had many different putties and compared to those, this putty is hard. Too hard for small hands to manipulate. It color changes and is stretchy but too hard to play with otherwise.I contacted the company and they were very helpful and accommodating.
