I bought this gazing ball because the wind can not blow it away. My last glass ball blew off and broke. The wind has blown here today at 43mph and I still have my stainless steel gazing ball. It is shiny and everything reflex on it.

The picture made it look sorta dark/platinum - it is actually silver, but will be the dark color toward evening! Priced them elsewhere around $45-50. Very happy with my purchase and not having to pay shipping with site-to-store. I tried to take a picture to upload - it looked just like the Site picture!

I did a lot of research and decided on a stainless steel gazing ball over a glass one for the obvious reason of durability. The reason I only gave this 3 stars was because of the seam which is visable at up to 15 ft or so. The seam is brushed which helps although still very noticable. This was not mentioned in the description of the gazing ball when I ordered it. Other than this both the shine and quality of the stainless steel globe appear to be very good. There is a small hole drilled in the bottom which allows the condensation to drip out.
I purchased this ball to use for taking multiple-exposure photos for high-dynamic-range images. I use these for lighting and reflections in a 3D computer graphics program. This ball has some imperfections, and a polished-out seam between the two hemispheres, but it is sufficiently good for this purpose. The 10 inch ball is much less expensive than any of the alternative ball sources, and the large size makes it easier to photograph from a distance for a more-usable image. I recommend purchasing it.
