The Enterprise is sent to investigate the disappearance of the legendary Spock (Leonard Nimoy), who has been accused of defecting to the Romulans. Traveling to Vulcan, Picard (Patrick Stewart) visits Sarek (Mark Lenard), Spock's ailing father, and learns of Spock's relationship with the Romulan senator Pardek (Malachi Throne). Meanwhile, Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and the crew search for clues to a missing Vulcan ship. Upon his return to the Enterprise, Picard convinces the Klingons to provide him with a cloaked vessel so that he may enter Romulan territory undetected. During a difficult night aboard the Klingon ship, Picard and Data (Brent Spiner) learn of Sarek's death. Disguised as Romulans, they make their way to Romulus and begin the search for Spock.
