Many people are rather unforgiving towards this series because of the old special and visual effects, but they were state of the art for the 60's!!! If you can ignore or even find the old sets and effects endearing like I do, you can see that this is such an original, imaginative series, full of unforgettable episodes. Plus, I think that - especially given some of the costumes and effects - the actors were truly superb in this series, especially William Shatner. I find it comforting to watch it, and I love all of the old Star Trek shows because they have always stood for something more and represent a hope for what the future and humanity can be.
